“Commander Portyr, acting Marshal of the Fist. If you have a crime to report, please wait outside - we are currently at capacity.„
History[edit | edit source]
Liara Portyr is a Baldur's Gate patriar from the well-off and influential Portyr patriar family. She was in command of Fort Beluarian in Chult, where she arranged a deal with local pirates that allowed for the safe passage of Baldurian trade vessels, as well as planning the search and acquisition of relics and treasure from the jungle.[1]
During the events of Descent into Avernus, Liara Portyr was recalled to Baldur's Gate, where she served as the acting marshal of the Flaming Fist until Duke Ravengard's return. Gortash eventually planned to make Liara Portyr subservient to the Absolute by infecting her with a Mind Flayer Tadpole, before threatening her uncle, Dillard Portyr, into resigning his seat on the Ducal Council in her favour.[2]
At the same time, Raphael planned to elevate Liara Portyr into the spotlight and reinforce her power through a series of schemes that involved a religious leader,[3] the Flaming Fist commander of the Seatower of Balduran,[4] and an unknown individual with a position in the Flaming Fist barracks.[5]

Act Three[edit | edit source]
Upon entering the main office of the Basilisk Gate Barracks, Lora Bergauz can be met, futilely attempting to explain to Flame Portyr that her daughter, Vanra, has gone missing. Portyr seems to be having severe short-term memory issues and keeps forgetting what Lora has said only seconds earlier in the conversation. A successful Arcana check reveals her memory has been magically tampered with. Speaking to Lora and Portyr allows the party to start the quest.
Through progressing the quest to save Vanra, it is revealed that Auntie Ethel has bewitched Portyr to prevent her from investigating Vanra's disappearance. If killing Ethel and returning to Portyr, she appears to have fully recovered save for some headaches and the vague memory of a "Fey-like creature".
Epilogue[edit | edit source]
If Wyll chooses to ascend politically as the next Grand Duke of Baldur's Gate, Wyll mentions during the epilogue party that Liara Portyr is now Grand Duke of the Wilds, Sickle of Chult.[6]

- Liara Portyr is sometimes referred to as 'Flame' rather than Blaze in various books and notes. It is unknown if these were written before she was made Blaze, if it means to suggest she was recently demoted and re-promoted, or if it's simply a mistake.
- According to Fist Murphy, Liara Portyr once crushed a man's skull with her bare hands.
