Golbraith Stredivas
Overview[edit | edit source]
Golbraith is a retired mind flayer hunter, and leading expert on mind flayers and counter-illithid strategies. He is currently dedicating his time to tracking those that have infiltrated the city, having passed the mantle and illithid-hunting responsibilities down to his son.
Involvement[edit | edit source]
Golbraith is found on the first floor of his home, a building north of The Blushing Mermaid X: -148 Y: -60. If the player reassures him that they know how to deal with mind flayers, he will give them a shield originally gifted to him by Abdel Adrian, Abdel's Trusted Shield.[3] However, if the party tells him "You should be out there fighting- not hiding in here!" Golbraith will lament his inability to help his son (due to his age) and demand that the party leave his house.
There is also a locked chest on the first floor with some (not-detailed) correspondence between him and his son, and a book inside a chest in the heavily-trapped basement titled Confidant of a Duke, which recounts his first encounter with Abdel on the Elfsong's terrace.
Golbraith's mail box also has a letter from The Lodge, asking for a consult on illithids, and some fanmail from someone who used his techniques to best an illithid.

- ↑ Apparently, Golbraith was a friend of Abdel Adrian, the canonical identity of Gorion's Ward, the main character of the previous installments of the Baldur's Gate series. Some details about this can be read about in the book Confidant of a Duke found on a bookshelf beside Golbraith. However, neither Golbraith nor this shield appear in any previous games.
- ↑ The Sword Coast Courier's address book mentions that Havkelaag (of the Society of Brilliance) has a 'philosophical objection' to postal service, and that letters should be addressed to Golbraith instead.
