Overview[edit | edit source]

Mystic Carrion resides on the lower floor of Philgrave's Mansion and acts as a Trader. Several Ghouls roam the mansion as Mystic Carrion uses them for his dark work.

Involvement[edit | edit source]

Mystic Carrion is encountered by entering Philgrave's Mansion - either by detecting and lockpicking the stone wall X: -8 Y: -158, destroying the stone wall, using the hole in the wall X: 29 Y: -166 to sneak in, or by lockpicking the balcony entrance.

Carrion asks the party what they are doing because they do not have an appointment. He explains that he is a spirit medium who works with wealthy clients in the Upper City. Carrion believes the party is too poor to seek his services, but asking "Is there anything I can do for you?" will get his attention. He does indeed have a job - seeking out his lost servant, Thrumbo Thrumbo.

This starts the quest Find Mystic Carrion's Servant Find Mystic Carrion's Servant. If the party chooses to ally with Thrumbo and destroy any of Mystic Carrion's organs, then he will become hostile and attack them as soon as they return to Philgrave's Mansion. Likewise if the party has destroyed any of Mystic Carrion's organs before ever meeting him, he will be immediately hostile.

If the party 'kills' Mystic Carrion before destroying Jar of Mystic Carrion's Heart and then takes a long rest, Carrion will resurrect himself, destroy Thrumbo and his friends, and hide his heart in the basement of Philgrave's Mansion. In this case if, prior to killing him, the party had removed any of the jars but not destroyed them, they will be missing from the inventory after the long rest, replaced with a threatening note from Carrion.

If the party started the quest Search the Cellar Search the Cellar and obtained or read The Necromancy of Thay, Mystic Carrion offers his services of spirit channeling for 1500 gold. If accepted, the spirits tell of another book called The Tharchiate Codex located in Sorcerous Sundries, which they claim is key to unlocking the power of The Necromancy of Thay.

Bugs[edit | edit source]

  • As of Patch 5 Hotfix 17, the secret wall door on the balcony can be opened using a Gilded Chest as key. This is likely a bug. It is currently unknown if it is a specific Gilded Chest or any. [Needs Verification]
