Involvement[edit | edit source]

Act One[edit | edit source]

Cal can be found in the The Hollow of the Emerald Grove, arguing with Lia Lia, and {{CharLink|Rolan} on whether they should remain to help the tiefling refugees or leave. While Cal attempts to mediate, Lia fervently believes they should stay and help the tiefling refugees, while Rolan thinks they should leave. The party can convince them to leave or stay.[1]

Cal, Lia, and Rolan grew up together. While Cal and Lia are biological siblings, all three of them maintain a sibling relationship with each other. Out of the trio, Cal has the calmest temper, often serving as a mediator between the two.

If the goblin leaders are killed, Cal takes part in the festivities at the party's Camp alongside Lia and Rolan.

Act Two[edit | edit source]

If the trio are convinced to stay behind to help, and all three survive Act One, they are split apart in Act Two. When the tiefling refugees are ambushed, Cal and Lia are abducted by cultists and held captive in Moonrise Towers Prison. The remaining tieflings at the Last Light Inn then ask the party to Rescue the Tieflings Rescue the Tieflings.

If not freed from Moonrise Towers before dealing with the Aylin Nightsong, his corpse can be found in the Oubliette with those of all the other prisoners.[2]

Cal does not appear in Act Two if the trio are not convinced to stay.

Act Three[edit | edit source]

If Cal survives Act Two and Rolan chooses to side with the party against Lorroakan Lorroakan, he appears in Sorcerous Sundries together with Lia, one long rest after Lorroakan's death.

Companion approval[edit | edit source]

The party can convince Cal, Lia and Rolan to leave or stay.

  • [PERSUASION] You should all stay. A single blade could make a difference. (DC 10)
  • [BARBARIAN] Only cowards run from a fight.
  • [DRAGONBORN] Clan is everything. You don't abandon those you swore to protect.
  • [PALADIN] 'Where the weak have need, the strong have a duty'. Stay.
  • [RANGER] I'd choose the wilderness over the dangers of a city any day. Stay.
  • [TIEFLING] Have you forgotten Elturel? We should stand by our people - no one else will.

  • Get out while you can - the goblins will be back.

Idle banter[edit | edit source]

Cal attempts to calm Lia and Rolan as they argue about whether to stay in the Grove during Act One:

  • Rolan: We don't even know these people!
    • Lia: That doesn't matter.
      • Rolan: Of course it does. You would choose strangers over us!
        • Lia: That's not what I said.
          • Cal: Can we stop shouting? No?
  • Cal: Calm down! Please.
    • Lia: I won't leave them behind!
      • Rolan: You're going to get us killed!

If Cal, Lia, and Rolan stay in the Grove:

  • Cal: Don't be grumpy, Rolan. We'll get to the city soon.
    • Rolan: I am not grumpy.
      • Cal: The scowl on your face would frighten a troll.
        • Rolan: Heh. You're an idiot.
  • Cal: How long until Rolan shows off his Thunderwave?
    • Lia: Depends. How many people are dumb enough to ask?
      • Cal: Hah! True.

If Cal, Lia, and Rolan do not stay in the Grove:

  • Cal: How long will it take to get to Baldur's Gate?
    • Rolan: Depends. How often are you going to ask that?
      • Cal: Hey, sis. How long will it take to get to Baldur's Gate?
        • Lia: *Sigh.*
  • Rolan: We should add the Elfsong Tavern to the list.
    • Lia: So long as you're paying.
      • Cal: Drinks on Rolan? Count me in.
        • Rolan: I swear, I've never met such a pair of cheapskates.

Notes[edit | edit source]

  1. If Cal, Lia, and Rolan are convinced to remain in the Grove, the party is granted 15 XP. No XP is granted if they leave.
  2. In Patch 8 he may also die even if the party do free the prisoners from Moonrise Towers before dealing with the Nightsong.[Needs Verification]
