Deception is a Charisma-based Skill. The higher your Charisma Score, the more likely you will succeed on Deception Checks.

Proficiency

Characters who are proficient in Deception can add their Proficiency Bonus when making Ability checks.

The following backgrounds grant proficiency in Deception:

Warlocks who choose the Beguiling Influence Eldritch Invocation gain proficiency in Deception and Persuasion.

Characters who take the Actor feat gain Expertise (and Proficiency) in Deception and Performance.
