The player first encounters Meli when he has stolen [[Barth|Barth's]] mother's locket and he has confronted her about it. Depending on the player's intervention, he can leave either with or without it, and might reveal that he stole the locket because it reminded him of his own mother's.


Later, he can be found in the [[Tiefling Hideout]], practicing pickpocketing on a dummy.

If Aradin's crew stays for a drink, Meli will spawn at {{Coords|174|544|The Hollow}} pretending to look at things in an open crate while the crew heads to a nearby table. The party can watch Meli steal a {{SmRarityItem|Brass Locket}} from {{CharLink|Barth|Barth's}} pocket and run up the ladder where Barth will catch him. Initiating conversation with either one will allow the choice to intervene and protect Meli, convince him to return the locket, or let Barth do what he wants.

Meli is a tiefling NPC in Baldur's Gate 3. He is a pickpocket who works for Mol Mol's children's gang in the Emerald Grove.

Involvement

Act 1

If Aradin Beno Aradin Beno and his crew leave Emerald Grove, Meli can be found in the Tiefling Hideout X: 87 Y: 71, practicing pickpocketing on a dummy.

Pickpocketing Barth

Main article: Return the Locket

If Aradin's crew stays for a drink, Meli will spawn at The Hollow X: 174 Y: 544 pretending to look at things in an open crate while the crew heads to a nearby table. The party can watch Meli steal a Brass Locket from Barth Barth's pocket and run up the ladder where Barth will catch him. Initiating conversation with either one will allow the choice to intervene and protect Meli, convince him to return the locket, or let Barth do what he wants.

There are four options:

  • Protecting Meli, "Don't lay a finger on that child." ( DC 10 Persuasion check or DC 10 Intimidation check) and he will run off with the locket.
  • Convincing Meli to return the locket ( DC 5 Persuasion check or DC 15 Intimidation check) and he might be persuaded to reveal that he stole the locket because it reminded him of his mother's.
  • Letting Barth strike Meli, the locket will fall out of his pocket, and the nearby guard Ikaron Ikaron will come over to investigate the disturbance.
  • If already having pickpocketed the locket from Meli, it is possible to return it to Barth. He's good, but I'm better. This will impress Meli and placate Barth.

If Isobel is still alive after Resolve the Abduction, then he and the other children will huddle together and worry over Mol's safety now that she's been kidnapped by the Cult of the Absolute. The party can offer to look for Mol themselves and start the quest Find Mol. If Isobel dies during that quest, then the entire Last Light Inn will fall to the Shadow Curse and Meli will die.
