Gekh Coal

Gekh Coal is a Duergar slaver in the Underdark. He leads a group of other Duergar slavers in the Decrepit Village.

Involvement[edit | edit source]

Gekh is hiding via invisibility inside the Decrepit Village along with his fellow Duergar Lurgan, Holvik, and Novice Garmor. If the party approaches from the high ground, then one of his hidden companions will reveal themselves and tell Gekh that "someone is sneaking up on them". If the party approaches from the beach, then Gekh will immediately address them himself.

Gekh threatens to kill the party but will relent if they succeed a DC 15 Persuasion check, succeed a DC 15 Intimidation check, succeed a DC 15 Religion check, use a Duergar exclusive dialogue option, use a Fighter exclusive dialogue option, successfully read his mind, or display the Brand of the Absolute. Drow and the Dark Urge have a reduced difficulty DC 10 roll instead.

Gekh then explains that his group is searching for the Boots of Speed belonging to Elenna Thrinn Sergeant Thrinn. These boots were stolen by a Deep Gnome, Thulla Thulla, who was last seen near the Ebonlake Grotto. The party can either offer to help him recover the boots or refuse. If they refuse then Gekh and the other Duergar will become hostile and attack. If the party agrees to help and successfully takes the boots from Thulla (whether through stealing them or as a reward for healing her), then Gekh will congratulate them and allow them to use his raft to travel to the Adamantine Forge.

If the player character is a Deep Gnome or the party is accompanied by Glut Glut, then Gekh and the other Duergar will immediately turn hostile.

Combat[edit | edit source]

Gekh Coal will usually cast Animate Dead immediately on the nearby shattered Duergar corpses, reviving them as Reanimated Corpse Reanimated Corpses.
