Omeluum is a friendly Mind Flayer trader in Baldur's Gate 3. Omeluum can be found at Ebonlake Grotto in the Underdark after being contacted by Blurg. It is a member of the Society of Brilliance and can attempt to remove the tadpole.

Act One

The player can meet Omeluum after talking to the Hobgoblin trader Blurg at Ebonlake Grotto. Blurg is a fellow scholar of the Society of Brilliance, who will bring Omeluum to help the player.

The player has several opportunities to attack Omeluum during dialogue, and some Companions might actually suggest it. If the player listens to Omeluum they will learn that it is a rogue member of its society who was born with special powers that allow it to resist the control of the Elder Brain of its colony. Omeluum feeds on the brains of cruel and sadistic creatures of the Underdark, and wishes to help the Illithid society by discovering a brain-free diet.

Should the player bring Omeluum the required ingredients, it will attempt to remove the tadpole. Omeluum will not only fail, but also make the tadpole more powerful. The Mindflayer will be surprised and worried about the power of the tadpole, and will apologize for not being of service. Omeluum will then offer to sell the Ring of Mind-Shielding, which can limit the powers of the tadpole. The player can either buy this ring or convince Omeluum to give it to them.

Act Three

If Steal a Githyanki Egg was resolved without Lady Esther receiving the githyanki egg, then in Chapter Three Blurg informs us at the Society of Brilliance Lodge that Omeluum travelled with him to report their findings to the Society of Brilliance, but it has now gone missing. He asks you to track Omeluum down. This starts the Retrieve Omeluum quest.

You will find Omeluum in the south west corner of the Iron Throne. It will become a temporary companion with the ability to Teleport to Submersible Teleport to Submersible. Once rescued, Omeluum returns to the Lodge. It cannot be traded with, although it can be pickpocketed.

Notes

  • While BG3 refers to Omeluum as "he" at one point, it more frequently uses "it." As Illithid society doesn't particularly have a strong concept of gender, we've maintained the usage of "it" in this article to remain closer to Omeluum's in-game depiction.
  • Omeluum appears to act as a parallel, or a stand-in for Grazilaxx, another Illithid appearing within the Fifth Edition module, "Out of the Abyss."
