Oath of Vengeance is one of the Subclasses of Paladin that focuses on righting wrongs and delivering justice, usually by any means necessary.
Subclass features[edit | edit source]
This subclass obtains all the features from its base class, Paladin, in addition to its unique features outlined below.
Level 1

Fight the Greater Evil. Exerting your wisdom, identify the higher morality in any given instance, and fight for it.
No Mercy for the Wicked. Chasten those who dole out their villainy by wiping their blight from the world forever.

- You or an ally's weapon attacks deal an additional Radiant damage equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum 1) and can enemies 2 turns.
Level 3

- Channel Oath
- Use an Action to an enemy. They'll be easier to hit and cannot move. Fiends and undead have Disadvantage on this Saving Throw.

- Gain Advantage on Attack Rolls against an enemy.
- Oath Spells
- You gain additional spells from your oath. They are Always Prepared.
Level 5
- Oath Spells
- You gain additional spells from your oath. They are Always Prepared.
Level 7
- If you hit an enemy with an Opportunity Attack, your movement speed increases by 4.5 m / 15 ft on your next turn.
- This movement does not provoke any further opportunity attacks.
Level 9

- You gain additional spells from your oath. They are Always Prepared.
Oathbreaking actions[edit | edit source]
This section details actions which cause Paladins to break the Oath of the Vengeance.
Act 1[edit | edit source]
- Attacking Damays and Nymessa (tieflings who guard trapped Lae'zel) by any means, including options that occur through the dialogue.
- As The Dark Urge, chopping off Gale's hand at the point of his possible recruitment
- Freeing Sazza from her cage using the Paladin. Using a companion to free her won't break the Oath
- When the Shadow Druids reveal themselves, telling Kagha the character won't stand in her way.
- Prodding the wing of the Exhausted Bird. Playing as The Dark Urge, the option is "Tear her wings off"
- As The Dark Urge, breaking Pandirna's legs
- Killing Scratch near the Owlbear Cave
- Succumbing to Auntie Ethel's will after putting on a Whispering Mask.
- Letting Auntie Ethel get away from the fight alive in exchange for her boon, even if Mayrina is allowed to go free
- Torturing Liam in Shattered Sanctum
- Revealing the location of the Emerald Grove to Minthara, either showing her or allowing her to read your thoughts
Rosymorn Monastery/Creche Y'llek
- As The Dark Urge, kicking the githyanki egg off the cliffside when talking to Lady Esther
- Allowing Nere kill the enslaved deep gnomes after he is freed from the cave-in
- Siding with Nere against Elder Brithvar and duergar rebels
- In Ebonlake Grotto, siding with Sovereign Glut and helping it defeat Sovereign Spaw
- As The Dark Urge, throwing Baelen's bag in the midst of spores at the bibberbang field
- At the camp celebration with tieflings, trying to stop Komira from killing Kagha, if Arabella has died during her judgement (regardless of the roll result)
- As The Dark Urge, after killing Alfira, choosing to "admire this beautiful death".
Act 2[edit | edit source]
- During the Punish the Wicked quest, ordering Madeline to stab herself and then stopping her, saying that it was enough
- Attacking He Who Was (through the corresponding dialogue option) instead of judging Madeline
- As The Dark Urge, crushing Dolly Thrice after releasing her from the Moonlantern
- Encouraging Mol to sign a contract with Raphael, or praising her ambitiousness
- Siding with Marcus when he attempts to kidnap Isobel
- As The Dark Urge, revealing the player character's depravity to the Strange Ox
- On the first visit to the Moonrise, killing the goblins on Disciple Z'rell orders
- Helping Linsella take back control of Barnabus the gnoll
- Letting Questioners Jasin and Sumera wipe Minthara's mind
- OR Taking part in the execution and erasing her mind (as The Dark Urge, "Make her NOTHING" option).
- As The Dark Urge, speaking with Steelclaw and trying to remember what the player character did previously
- In the Shadowfell, letting Balthazar take Aylin to deliver her to Ketheric Thorm
- OR Attacking and killing Aylin
Act 3[edit | edit source]
- Providing the newborn mind flayer in the Abandoned Windmill basement with a dead body to feed
- As The Dark Urge, revealing the player character's depravity to the Strange Ox
Wyrm's Crossing/Wyrm's Rock Fortress
- Agreeing to take gold from Arfur Gregorio to 'forget' about rigged toys he donated for refugees
- Bringing Wulbren's head to Manip Falcäo
- Accepting Gortash's proposal of alliance at the ordaining ceremony
- Talking to Aradin in front of Sorcerous Sundries, and inviting him to try and kidnap Aylin from the player's camp
- Letting Viconia DeVir live after defeating her in the Cloister of Sombre Embrace
- Refusing to help Allandra Grey with investigating and avenging Holli Dylford's death
- Letting Churg Elvek and the crowd execute Volo
- In the House of Hope prison, using Basilisk Oil on any of the petrified debtors
- Allowing Astarion to complete the Rite of Profane Ascension
- OR, Convincing him not to ascend, but then deciding to leave the imprisoned spawn in their cells
- As The Dark Urge, at the Graveyard burying Bugthimble alive.
- As The Dark Urge, defeating Orin and accepting Bhaal's gift and will.
