Akabi is a djinni encountered in Rivington during Act Three of Baldur's Gate 3. He is a performer at the Circus of the Last Days in Rivington, located at X: -68 Y: -75 where he can be found hosting a Spin the Wheel game.

Akabi, when he first greets the player.

Involvement

When approached, Akabi will invite the party to participate and Spin the Wheel for 500 gold, loudly promoting the allure of winning the jackpot. Akabi magically rigs his game, guaranteeing that participants will only ever get one of the sixteen largely useless consolation prizes, unless the party manages to cheat the djinn himself.

Winning the jackpot

A successful DC 20 Perception check will reveal that Akabi is cheating, manipulating the wheel to ensure no one wins the jackpot.

He will deny any accusations, offering the interacting party member to simply spin again instead. If provoked, Akabi will shapeshift the talking party member into a cheese wheel for 20 turns. Akabi will refuse to let anyone play who has been transformed by him in this way, but other party members can still participate.

Instead, Akabi will need to be pickpocketed for his Djinni Ring, without which he cannot rig the game. Bards can also distract Akabi ( DC 15 Performance check) with either a joke or a well-timed fart and win the jackpot. However, both of these options will permanently lock the party out of winning future consolation prizes.

Winning Akabi's "game" earns the Inspirational Events Cheating the Cheater (Charlatan background) and A Grand Prize! (Sage background).

Jackpot "prize"

Regardless of how the party member won, Akabi will be enraged and accuse them of cheating. He will transport the contestant, alone, to a Jungle in the distant land of Chult. This is the only way to reach this area and obtain the items within, notably the trident Nyrulna and the ring Band of the Mystic Scoundrel. It is recommended to choose a party member for playing with Akabi, who is very capable at heavy combat or stealth, to survive in the jungle; the best reward possible is through combat and being able to kill every enemy in the jungle for the highest amount of XP.

Akabi will permanently close down the game if one character wins the jackpot, all characters are turned to cheese, or if all consolation prizes are claimed by spinning the wheel 16 times. it's not possible to obtain all of the consolation prizes and the jackpot as he shuts down the game on the 16th spin. He does not award the jackpot on the final spin if he still has his ring and the bard option isn't used.

Consolation prizes

There are 16 possible consolation prizes from Akabi. Some have utility, but most are either useless or even harmful.

  • +1 Breastplate, a normal Breastplate. The description text reveals it is simply named "+1 Breastplate."
  • Bag of Moulding turns all inserted food into moldy and rotten versions.
    • These can still be used as camp supplies and can be stacked with each other if the supply value is the same.
    • Drinks are immune to this effect.
  • Boots of Very Fast Blinking grants a per turn free casting of Misty Step Misty Step, a very powerful item, except the character will be stripped naked down to their underwear on every usage, the stripped articles of clothing will be left on the spot the user teleported from.
    • The inventory, equipped accessories, weapons, and the Boots of Very Fast Blinking themselves are not affected, and will stay with the user.
  • Comeback Handaxe, as of patch 5 it will "come back" to the party member that threw it, but it will also hit that party member.
  • Eternal Carafe of Wine (Or Sometimes Acid) will inflict the Caustic Brine Caustic Brine condition on its user, dealing damage.
  • Magical Walnut contains five walnuts for a total of 10 Camp Supplies.
  • Reverse Rain Cloak makes the wearer permanently Wet Wet while worn. This condition grants immunity to Burning Burning, Resistance to fire damage, but Vulnerability to cold and lightning damage. The wearer will also have their accumulated blood and dirt washed away upon equipping due to the Wet condition.
    • Wavemother's Cloak is a lesser version of this item, giving an analogous set of elemental resistances only until damage is taken on a turn.
  • Staff of a Mumbling Wizard, when equipped, gives the user a cantrip similar to Fire Bolt Fire Bolt, except it does not scale with the caster's level and always deals 1d10 damage. It has a 5% chance of instead spawning a Fireball Fireball centered on the target with every use of the cantrip. Pairs well with the Reverse Rain Cloak.
  • Unlucky Thief's Gloves provides a +2 bonus to Sleight of Hand checks, and adds a piece of Charcoal to the wearer's inventory for each item they steal.
    • While the description of this item intends for the charcoal to be a punishment, the charcoal can be sold for a small profit.
    • There is a chance for a charcoal briquette to be added instead, burning the wearer and possibly forcing pickpocket to end.

The other possible prizes are miscellaneous items with no further function:
