Steel Watchers are NPCs mainly found in the city of Baldur's Gate. They were invented by Gortash in an attempt to control the city. Steel Watchers are characterized by their imposing size and ability to self-destruct.

Attacks and Abilities

Each Steel Watcher wields a Watcher Greatsword or a Heavy Crossbow akin to Hellfire Engine Crossbow. The weapon does not drop when the Steel Watcher dies. Steel Watchers are immune to becoming:
 Prone
 Blind
 Frightened
 Charmed
 Surprised
 Poisoned

Notes

• When a Steel Watcher is about to die it will self-destruct as a result of the passive feature Failsafe Protocol. The explosion will deal 4d12+26Fire damage^{[Needs Verification]} in an area around the Watcher. The fire damage will penetrate immunities and resistances. A Dexterity saving throw can be made to receive half the damage dealt.
• Steel Watchers are immune to  Prone
• During the quest Disable the Steel Watch, several Hellfire Watchers and a special Steel Watcher Titan can be found in Steel Watch Foundry.
• Karlach's heart is a prototype engine for the Steel Watchers.
