Removed note because first this part of the story of Viconia was not written by Larian but by Bioware for the first two BG games. And second if hand how Lolth punishes apostates is not a strict rule terms of rule zero like e.g.passing or failing a saving throw. It's part of the lore of the FR setting, and lore can be interpreted in different ways. Lorewise it's possible that Lolth had other plans with Viconia, or Shar saved Viconia from Lolth's punishment; other Drow also escaped Lolth's wrath.

Viconia was born to House DeVir in the drow capital city of Menzoberranzan in [[Underdark]]. She was a priestess of Lolth for many years. To prove her faith she was tasked with killing an infant in a ritual sacrifice to the Spider Queen. Viconia refused and her house fell out of Lolth's favour. It seemed that the only way for House DeVir to regain their goddess' favour was for Viconia to prostrate herself before the Spider Queen. Viconia became fed up with Lolth's ways and believed she could survive without her.

As a result, House DeVir was left vulnerable to other Houses' attacks. In desperation, Matron DeVir tried to sacrifice Viconia, but her wizard brother intervened and killed their mother. As punishment, Lolth turned her brother into a drider for his matricide and stripped Viconia of her clerical powers for breaking faith, and Viconia fled to the surface {{ref|As Lolth demands absolute fealty from all drow, the fact that she did not have Viconia cursed or killed for breaking faith as a cleric of her order is likely another example of [https://geek-related.com/2013/10/12/rule-zero-over-the-years/ rule zero] being used by Larian for plot purposes in the game. Lolth has undoubtedly cursed and killed (directly or indirectly) many other drow for ''far'' less.}}. Some time later she found herself a new goddess - {{CharLink|Shar}}.

Being a possible companion in the first and second ''Baldur's Gate'' game, she canonically, if not traveled with, at the very least met Gorion's Ward (the protagonist of previous games) and their group as {{CharLink|Jaheira}} and {{CharLink|Minsc}} remember meeting her. Depending on the party's actions, and if Viconia was their companion, she could have also met {{CharLink|Sarevok}}.
