Lae'zel can be romanced.

Storyline[edit | edit source]

Act One[edit | edit source]

True to her personality, Lae'zel starts as forward and aggressively with romance as she does fights on the battlefield.[1] She is possessive [2][3], private [4], jealous [5] and unwilling to share the player character with others. At first only about sex, if romance is allowed to progress, Lae'zel's perception of the player character slowly evolves, eventually seeing them as a peer, then partner; she becomes genuine, passionate and loyal in her affections towards the player character.

Romance with Lae'zel can begin if If the player character has at least medium (20) approval with her. At this threshold an exclamation icon [!] may appear above her head. If spoken with, she states she has misjudged the player character, that they have proven their courage, and she is aroused by their scent. She then offers a night of sensual pleasure. If the player character begins a romance with another companion (where an evening cut-scene occurs) first, this scenario will not take place and she cannot be romanced unless the prior relationship is ended first. Instead, she will only mention her interest with some regret. Also, if the beginning stages of romance are started with two other companions even before a night scene occurs, Lae'zel ultimately dismisses any advance by the player character, stating she prefers "fresh meat".

If romance has not been closed off, the player character may agree to, decline, or mock her offer - with corresponding changes in approval. If the player character answers by telling Lae'zel they have "been wanting a hot githyanki girlfriend", she clarifies her intentions: "I won't be your 'girlfriend' , but I will be your lay. Yes or no?"

Additionally, the night celebration (regardless of side or approval) offers another opportunity to romance Lae'zel. However, if the party sided with the tieflings, the night celebration offers an opportunity to romance any one companion, Lae'zel being one of them.[6]

If the player character agrees to her offer, Lae'zel approaches just before a long rest occurs. She tells the player character, "I've come to sate you and be sated. I lead. You follow."

They follow her to the altar room threshold and she soon reappears, naked. Lae'zel, aggressive and used to being in control, then demands the player character submit.

A rough sexual scene occurs if any of these options are chosen:

  • [SHADOWHEART] Put your previous confrontation with Lae'zel out of your mind. Give in to her demand.
  • Close your eyes. You are hers.
  • Do as she asks. Taste.
  • [BERSERKER] Make me submit. SHOW ME YOUR RAGE.
  • [BARBARIAN] I do not submit. And I don't want submission from you. Show me your rage.
  • [GITHYANKI] [HALF-ORC] [DRAGONBORN] No. You submit to me. After, you can take whatever you desire.
  • [INTIMIDATION] That isn't how it's going to go. You submit to me. (DC 15)

If asked what she intends to do, Lae'zel slowly saunters around the player character and answers, "I intend to take my pleasure. Say the word 'no', and you will go untasted. Say yes, and you brave turbulent waters. Tell me." After this dialogue, the following options also work:

  • Yes. Take me.
  • [BERSERKER] YES.
  • [BARBARIAN] Yes, damn it!
  • [GITHYANKI] [HALF-ORC] [DRAGONBORN] You misunderstand. I will not submit to you, but you to me.
  • [INTIMIDATION] You misunderstand. I will not submit to you, but you to me. (DC 15)

Regardless of who takes charge, the player character wakes up next morning - aching in various places. Lae'zel insists it was just for pleasure and spends no time on sentimentality, having already begun preparing to leave camp by the time the player character starts to recover. Depending on conversation choices, the engagement may develop in future acts, with more dialogues and scenes.

At camp during an evening, some time after the initial sex scene, an exclamation point may appear above [!] her head. If spoken with, Lae'zel observes she has, on several occasions since their first night together, caught the player character looking at her "with lidded eyes" and perhaps, as she sees it, wants to sleep with her again. If agreeing with her assessment, she reminds them she never promised to be with them more than once. If agreeing but promising to stop, she deflects, answering, "I did not say it was unwelcome." With either choice, she playfully challenges the longing player character with an offer: "Tempt me." Any response except declining results in approval and her approaching them upon a long rest, followed by another implied sex scene which happens off-screen.

Act Two[edit | edit source]

After multiple long rests within the Shadow-Cursed Lands, if approval with the player character is high enough and her personal quest in Crèche Y'llek has been completed, she approachs them while sleeping, confesses she is obsessed with them and feels uneasy about it. She demands they prove their martial prowess in a duel to show her they are worthy of her obsession. Accepting the duel initiates combat between the two

[7] and concludes when either party reaches sufficiently low hit points.[8] Using certain potions in combat (and potentially other items such as coatings or scrolls[Needs Verification]) prompts disapproving overhead remarks from her, but does not affect approval or the results.

Regardless of who wins, the player character has the option to progress their romance with her after the fight. If they win, she is amazed by their skill in combat, saying they are "jhe'stil." If they lose, she finds herself still unable to dispense with her feelings and vows to protect them. In either case, she asks the player character to confirm their affection towards her; if confirmed, Lae'zel declares the player character "Zhak vo'n'ash duj. Source of my bruises." This fully partners them with Lae'zel and ends any other ongoing affairs.

Act Three[edit | edit source]

After being in Baldur's Gate for a time and after several long rests, she takes the player character to the rooftops to watch the sun together, talking about how she used to despise this world and loathe everything about it, but because the player character has shown her beauty where she would not have seen it, they can share affection together. She asks them to stay with her "when this is all over", which the player character can accept or reject.

If choosing the "Destroy the Brain" ending, Lae'zel's story can have multiple resolutions based on decisions in several quests connected to her.

Join Orpheus into battle

The player character can tell her to stay with them, ending the game with their romance intact. Still, if they are a mind flayer she will say this is a line she cannot cross and refuses to stay, flying off with Orpheus if he is alive. If Orpheus is a Mind Flayer, he wishes to commit suicide, but prior to that asks Lae'zel to lead the Githyanki instead - with no way to convince her. If Lae'zel accepts Orpheus' request, he can be persuaded to live to see their people free. Lae'zel accepts the duty she now has and leaves to fight the battle against Vlaakith.

Tasked to kill Orpheus by Vlaakith

If Lae'zel remains loyal to Vlaakith after meeting Voss near the Crèche in Act 1 and after talking to Vlaakith in Act 3, she is commanded to kill Orpheus. If freed after the Emperor abandons the party due to the player character's choices, they must persuade her Orpheus is needed. After the final battle, Lae'zel tries to kill him; the player character is given the option to watch it happen, not look while it is happening or attack her. The third option kills Lae'zel, while the other two result in maintaining the romance.

Emperor as Ally

Similar to the above, as long as the player character is not a Mind Flayer, she stays. If she is loyal to Orpheus and is convinced to let the Emperor assimilate him, she leaves to lead the fight against Vlaakith after everything that has happened, knowing her own duty and what will come next.[Needs Verification]

  1. After spending their first night with Lae'zel, if the player character says, "Last night was wonderful, I really enjoyed myself." Lae'zel matter-of-factly answers with, "Of course you did. I'm as extraordinary in bed as I am on the battlefield."
  2. If the player character accepts Lae'zel's offer of a night pleasure without commitments, she answers with, "Perhaps one night soon, I will come to your bunk and take what is mine."
  3. If Lae'zel is defeated in her romance-binding battle with the player character, Lae'zel pronounces, "You are mine. Say the words."
  4. Once Lae'zel's relationship with the player character becomes a committed one, they can tell her they would like to kiss her. Upon hearing this, Lae'zel states incredulously, "Here? Now? If it weren't apparent, it should be: I'm not keen on such outward displays of our flesh-bond." She can nevertheless be convinced to give a kiss with a successful persuasion or intimidation check. This may only be done once.
  5. At the teifling victory party after successfully defending the Emerald Grove, if the player character accepts an offer of night romance with another, Lae'zel derisively comments it is their loss they did not accept a night with her instead.
  6. Normally, the player character cannot have the beginning stages of romance with more than two companions. They also cannot have a beginning romance with Shadowheart and Lae'zel, unless Shadowheart is selected first and the evening cut-scene with her has not yet occurred. However, if the party elected to save the tieflings from the goblin raid at the Emerald Grove, the night celebration presents a unique opportunity to start romance with up to three companions at once. Specifically, if the player character is not actively romancing any companion, and approval with other companions is high enough, the night celebration dialogue is scripted to allow the player character the opportunity to start a romance with one of any of their companions (but only one), even if previously refused (but not one already ended). This is because, at the night celebration, a check is only made for the prior occurrence of at least one evening romance cut-scene with a(nother) companion. If none has, the player character may start a third beginning romance here. To be clear: the first two romances must be started before long resting and the night celebration begins, but can be done on the same "day", and even right after each other, and if one wants Shadowheart and Lae'zel to be included in this trio of budding romances, the player character must start the romace with Shadowheart first. After the first two romances are queued to begin, when the night celebration starts, the player character may approach a third companion and agree to meet with them later in the evening; the remaining queued romance scenes (and their progressions) still proceed with subsequent long rests.
  7. Depending on character level, game Difficulty level, equipment and tactics used, Lae'zel may be difficult to defeat. If besting her is desired, it may be helpful to leave her with only rudimentary equipment and/or diminshed hit points prior to long rests, when combat is anticipated.
  8. It is possible to down Lae'zel if sufficient damage is done while she is on the threshold of defeat. If this happens, the player character cries out in anguished surprise, "By the gods, not Lae'zel!" If downed, the post combat cut-scene does not occur, the player character is automatically bonded with Lae'zel, and other romances are ended. Additionally, if allowed to die, Lae'zel must then be revived by spell, scroll, or with Withers Withers.
