Halsin is a Companion in Baldur's Gate 3. He is an Elf Druid with the Outlander background.

Halsin can be recruited in Act Two, in the Shadow-Cursed Lands, after progressing the quest, Lift the Shadow Curse to a certain point. He is only recruitable by players who have made certain decisions in Act One relating to the Druid Grove.

Gameplay

As a Druid, Halsin is capable of filling a variety of roles in the party. He can debilitate enemies with control spells, support the party with spells that enhance himself and his allies, and he can deal damage with elemental damage-dealing spells. His Wild Shape ability allows him to wade into battle as a melee combatant or sneak and scout as a small animal.

Personality

Despite his tenacity in combat, Halsin is a gentle, honest elf, and treasures the sanctity and beauty of nature. Though a powerful healer with a lofty title, Halsin is humble and patient, but willing to act with force if the need arises. He views carnal pleasures as a natural calling and is willing for open relationships. On occasion he is known to have sex with people while embracing his connection to nature in wildshape. There are limits, however, such as not engaging in the deed with true animals. His scar is the result of rejecting a she-bear that attempted to mate with his wildshaped form during mating season.

Background

A long time ago, when Halsin was a young foolhardy druid he went to the Underdark to see the beauty of its local unwordly fauna, where he was taken by a Noble Drow House as something between guest, prisoner and consort. The house matron and patron took an interest in him, a novelty. He was chained to their bedroom for nearly three years.

Halsin did what was necessary to survive, though he does not look upon this experience negatively, as he tried to find a way to enjoy his stay there. While he feared for his life, he was waiting for a moment to win his freedom back. Lolth's noble houses are constantly at each other's throats and eventually his captors' rivals attacked. While the drow were distracted in a chaotic battle of drow against drow, he escaped, never having learned the ultimate fate of his hosts.

Personal Quest

Halsin does not have a Companion Quest. He is however deeply tied to Lift the Shadow Curse, making this quest incompletable without his assistance.

Romance

Act One

Halsin can be found in the Worg Pens within the Shattered Sanctum, held hostage and harassed by nearby goblins. Nettie will request the player to find him in order to be helped with the Tadpole. The player can either decide to join the goblins or release him.

If released, Halsin offers to help the party in curing their Tadpole problem, but first asks the player to defeat the goblin leaders. He starts the fight Wild Shaped, unable to hide or take other discreet actions, but can be returned to human form at will.

If the player chooses to help Halsin defeat the goblins, he will return to the Emerald Grove. Once there, he will confess that though he cannot cure them, he knows of a place where the tadpole could be removed. Providing leads on the Shadow-Cursed Lands, Halsin offers to accompany the party on their way to Moonrise Towers, so that he might lift the curse afflicting the area.
