Vampire spawn are a Race of Undead creatures which can be encountered in various locations in Baldur's Gate during Act Three. They are non-playable, excepting the Origin character Astarion.

About vampire spawn

Subservient to the one who created them, vampire spawn are deadly hunters both ravenous and proud.

Vampire spawn are created when a vampire bites and drinks the blood of another creature. Once the spawn is born, they are subservient entirely to their creator. They may only regain their free-will through the death of their creator, or reciprocally drinking their masters blood to become a true vampire. Astarion is a notable exception to this rule, regaining his free will through being infected by a tadpole.

Vampire spawn do not possess the powerful abilities of a true vampire, though they suffer from the usual afflictions. They are hypersensitive to sunlight, making spells such as Daylight useful against them. Vampire spawn also have resistance to physical and necrotic damage.

Notes

  1. Astarion has a unique Bite attack and none of the vampire spawn passives or resistances. Further, while he is not visibly classed as being undead, he does enjoy some of the benefits of it (such as ignoring Spell Rot Spell Rot).
