The Idol of Silvanus is in the center of the Sacred Pool {{Coords|243|507}} right in the middle of the Rite of Thorns ritual and surrounded by druids. Stealing the idol while the ritual is underway starts a cutscene where the signal is given and the druids commence a pre-arranged slaughter of every tiefling within the Grove. The druids will also be hostile to the party. Since the fight happens in real time, leaving the tieflings to their fate or not moving quickly enough to defend as many of them as possible, causes them to be killed by the Emerald Grove druids. The final stand takes place in the makeshift prison where all the tiefling civilians are holed up. If enough of them are killed then {{Quest|Save the Refugees}} is completed as a failed quest. It should be noted that {{CharLink|Zevlor}} is usually one of the first to fall since he faces First Druid {{CharLink|Kagha}} in battle.

This method can be done by any character, regardless of their {{Skill|Sleight of Hand}}, or {{Skill|Stealth}} skills. This method also relies on an in-game glitch where, when done correctly, it doesn’t register that the idol has been stolen. As of 2024-12-25, Patch 7, Hotfix #29, this method works.

'''Terminology/UI'''

* The “Camp and Resting Menu” button is the right most, round, fire icon on the toolbar UI.
* The “Go to Camp” button is the third button on the sub-menu that’s displayed when you click on the “Camp and Resting Menu” button, and is also the same fire icon.

'''Summary'''

You have a lone character (the others should be in camp) stand a distance from the statue when you click on it to initiate the theft. Then as they’re walking over you click ''and hold'' on the “Camp and Resting Menu” to bring up the sub-menu options, then mouse up to ''hover over'' the “Go to Camp” button while still holding down the mouse button. The ''moment'' you see the idol move you release the held-down mouse button to activate the “Go to Camp” button. The timing is split-second (you have ''less than one quarter of a second'' to release the button) so please read throughly, and understand the sequence of events completely, ''before proceeding'', or you’ll risk a (possibly dire) confrontation with the Druids.

It is ''highly recommended'' that you practice this click, hold, hover, and release mechanic so its function is familiar to you before you attempt to steal the statue. You cannot look at this menu or its buttons during the steal animation.

'''Step-by-step'''

# Position the character on the steps to the lift/elevator, where Tuffet the bear is sleeping.
# Position the camera so the idol is in the middle of your screen.
# Click on the idol with the red hand cursor.
# Your character will start walking over to steal it.
# During this time press and hold on the “Camp and Resting Menu” button to display the sub-menu options.
# While still holding down the mouse button, move the cursor up so it’s hovering over the “Go to Camp” button.
# The character should just be approaching the steps up to the idol.
# Lock your gaze on the idol, ignoring every other UI element, including your character, but the idol.
# The split-second the steal/move animation begins, and the idol starts to arc over and into the character image, release the mouse button to go to camp.

If your timing was correct you’ll end up in camp with the idol. If it was too slow you’ll be confronted by a Druid. If you were successful you can immediately return to the Druid Grove and speak to Mol to get the Ring of Protection.

Steal the Sacred Idol is a Quest in the Druid Grove in Act One of Baldur's Gate 3. It can be initiated by speaking with Mol Mol after earning her trust by helping the various tiefling children in the Druid Grove.

Objectives[edit | edit source]

Objectives and journal entries may vary pending story decisions and outcomes.

Steal the druids' sacred idol.
  • Mol asked us to steal some kind of idol from the druids.
Fight the druids.
  • We took the sacred idol and disrupted the ritual - but now the druids are attacking the tieflings.
Give the Idol of Silvanus to Mol.
  • Mol asked us to steal a sacred idol from the druids. Luckily, we already have it.
  • We stole the sacred idol and killed all the druids. Now we just need to deliver the idol to Mol.
  • Even though the ritual to seal the grove had been halted, we stole the sacred idol. Now to deliver it to Mol.
Find Mol in Baldur's Gate.
  • We gave the sacred idol to Mol. She promised to repay us in Baldur's Gate.
  • Mol and her crew left for Baldur's Gate before we could speak with her. We should look for her in the city.
Quest Complete
  • We gave the sacred idol to Mol. She promised to repay us in Baldur's Gate.
  • We angered Mol and her gang - they won't deal with us anymore.
  • We decided to keep the sacred idol for ourselves.
  • The tieflings were forced out of the grove before we could steal the sacred idol.
  • We left the grove without stealing the sacred idol.
  • We weren't able to return the idol to Mol.

Walkthrough[edit | edit source]

Hatch to the tiefling hideout.

In order to receive this quest, the party must be on good terms with the tiefling children in the Grove. A variety of quests influence how Mol sees them:

The most effective way to gain Mol's respect is to rescue Mirkon. He informs the party about the location of the tiefling hideout and the password needed to enter, allowing a simple path forward. Once inside, Mol greets the party and thanks them for all the good deeds they've done for the children. ChoosingThought you might need help with something causes Mol to request stealing the Idol of Silvanus as revenge for hurting Arabella and the other tiefling refugees. Agreeing to steal the idol starts the quest. If not choosing the dialogue option to help Mol the party will be locked out of the quest and its reward.

Idol of Silvanus in the Sacred Pool.

The Idol of Silvanus is in the center of the Sacred Pool X: 243 Y: 507 right in the middle of the Rite of Thorns ritual and surrounded by druids. Stealing the idol while the ritual is underway starts a cutscene where the signal is given and the druids commence a pre-arranged slaughter of every tiefling within the Grove. The druids also become hostile to the party. Since the fight happens in real time, leaving the tieflings to their fate (or not moving quickly enough to defend as many of them as possible) causes them to be killed by the Emerald Grove druids. The final stand takes place in the makeshift prison where all the tiefling civilians are holed up. If enough of them are killed then Save the Refugees Save the Refugees fails. Zevlor Zevlor is usually one of the first to fall since he faces Kagha Kagha in battle.

Ways to steal the Idol of Silvanus[edit | edit source]

If the party is caught, fighting the druids may still be avoided with a DC 15 Deception, or Intimidation check.

Using Stealth[edit | edit source]

The Idol can be stolen without angering the druids if Investigate Kagha Investigate Kagha has been completed and the Rite of Thorns has been stopped. However, this quest has to be started before stopping the ritual or it will not be offered. After this, the party may use stealth to discreetly acquire the idol. Spells like Darkness Darkness, Fog Cloud Fog Cloud, and Greater Invisibility Greater Invisibility are also helpful.

Using fast travel[edit | edit source]

Another option to avoid getting caught is to hide, steal the idol, and fast travel before being spoken to by a druid. If returning to the grove with enough delay, the druids do not become hostile. Returning to Mol still triggers the normal quest dialog.

Using Mage Hand[edit | edit source]

It is Mage Hand Mage Hand can also be used to throw the idol far enough away that the druids cannot observe a party member picking it up.

Quest Reward[edit | edit source]

Notes[edit | edit source]

  • After completing the quest, the idol can be bought back (or pickpocketed) from Mol, allowing the idol's bonuses to be kept. The price depends on the character's Charisma and standing with her.
  • It is not possible to start this quest after finishing Investigate Kagha Investigate Kagha, Save the First Druid Save the First Druid, or anything that decides the grove's fate prior to speaking with Mol.
  • It may be possible to steal the idol through a glitch / exploit on the PC version of the game while using mouse and keyboard. This method can be done by any character, regardless of their Sleight of Hand Sleight of Hand, or Stealth Stealth skills. This method also relies on an in-game glitch where, when done correctly, it is not registered that the idol has been stolen. As of 2024-12-25, Patch 7, Hotfix #29, this method works.[Needs Verification]
