Father Lorgan is a cleric of Ilmater and a priest of the Open Hand Temple in Baldur's Gate outskirts, Rivington. By the time the party reaches Act Three, Lorgan is already dead.

Overview[edit | edit source]

If approaching the Open Hand Temple, the party can find out that its temple prior has been cruelly murdered. The party can find the Temple's second-in-charge, Yannis Sister Yannis, arguing with hollyphant Valeria Valeria over investigating of the assasination. Valeria was charged with this case but doesn't want to put herself to any bother, preferring the obvious (and politically convenient) explanation. She is convinced that Lorgan was killed by one of multiple refugees swarming in and around Rivington.

After Valeria leaves, Yannis asks the party to conduct another, more meticulous investigation, and tells, that one of the victims is temple prior Father Lorgan, while another is a refugee named Brilgor (the very same that Valeria claims guilty of Lorgan's death).

Involvement[edit | edit source]

The corpse of Father Lorgan is kept in the temple's infirmary (X: -59 Y: -23). The only thing that can be looted from it is Lorgan's Chest Key.

If spoken to with the Speak with Dead Speak with Dead spell, Father Lorgan's corpse will tell that he indeed was having dealings with Brilgor, but quite the opposite to what Valeria thinks of. Lorgan wanted to provide some real help to refugees in accordance with Ilmater's teachings, but even knowing that not all of his brethren in faith would approve this (f.e. like Bill Brother Bill), he didn't try hard to make his actions covert. He was killed while helping Brilgor to hide from Flaming Fist guards in the caves beneath the temple.

Lorgan's corpse will also tell that the murderer was a dwarf dressed in red, and that a paralytic poison was used on him. It will hint that passage to the caves begins in the temple cellar. If the party interrogates Brilgor's corpse and, later, one of the dead Doppelgangers in the caves, those bodies will confirm this and even tell the name of the killer: Dolor Dolor.

Lorgan's Chest Key fits to one of the chests in the temple's dormitories (X: -91 Y: -1). When the player opens the chest, a passive DC 10 Investigation check is rolled (for all party members). A successful check will point out a false bottom in the chest, that conceals a personal diary of Father Lorgan (Confessions, Vol. 1, Father Lorgan). Entries in the diary show that Lorgan's faith hadn't wavered even after all recent events.

Speak with Dead[edit | edit source]

Party member: Who are you?

  • Father Lorgan: Lorgan... Reverend... Open Hand...

Party member: Who killed you?

  • Father Lorgan: Dwarf... dressed in red...
    • Party member: Why did he kill you?
      • Narrator: *The corpse remains silent. It does not know.*

Party member: What were you doing when you died?

  • Father Lorgan: Hiding Brilgor... from Fists...
    • Party member: Why were you hiding Brilgor?
      • Father Lorgan: Must protect... innocents... Ilmater's will
    • Party member: Where did you hide him?
      • Father Lorgan: Took him to tunnels... with the rest... fool... fool...

Party member: How did you die?

  • Father Lorgan: A poisoned blade... paralysis...

Party member: Where were you attacked?

  • Father Lorgan: Tunnels from the cellar... refuge...

Notes[edit | edit source]

  • Corpses of other refugees that probably received Father Lorgan's aid can be found deeper in the caves (above the cragged rock near ritual murder scene). They will not respond to Speak with Dead Speak with Dead spell.
