Overview[edit | edit source]
The Waning Moon is a bar, tended by Thisobald Thorm and found in the south-western corner of Reithwin town. It has several entrances, with the main entrance from the centre of town, and a side entrance down a flight of stairs leading from the road to Baldur's Gate.
Main room[edit | edit source]
In the main room are two bars, one downstairs tended by Thisobald Thorm, and another smaller bar upstairs for "halflings and gnomes". Milling about on both floors are several non-hostile blighted Zombies who will be allied with Thisobald if he is engaged in combat. In a hidden rustic chest south of the downstairs bar X: -211 Y: -87 is a Potion of Angelic Slumber.
Approaching the bar will immediately engage Thisobald in conversation. He can either be defeated through combat, or dialogue (see #Dialogue walkthrough).
Behind the bar, a DC 10 Perception check will reveal some loose planks hiding Madeline's Ledger, which is required for the quest . Leaning up against the bar is the Rat Bat.
Further back is a door to a cavernous area where Thisobald had been conducting experiments. This door can be opened with the Worn Key dropped by Thisobald.
Backroom[edit | edit source]
Inside the caved area is a table with some Research Notes that will talk about a poison that Thisobald was developing. Reading this will lead to an investigation check (DC 14) that will reveal where to find the last ingredient for the poison.
A nearby locked chest (DC 10) contains the Punch-Drunk Bastard. Another locked chest (DC: 10) contains the Ichorous Gloves.
South of the research notes is a trapped (DC 14) door that can be lockpicked (DC 5). Inside is three chest with some alchemy ingredients.

Dialogue walkthrough[edit | edit source]
In bar there are a number of non hostile people. Behind the bar is Thisobald Thorm.
The party can approach him to start a conversation. He’ll offer a drink. There are the following choices to choose:
- What in all Nine Hells are you?
- What is it that you’re serving?
- I already drank some wine earlier, thank you.
- Attack.
After choosing the first option, he’ll say he's Ketheric Thorm’s son. Afterwards, there will be the following options:
- Pick up the tankard.
- No. I will not drink.
- Attack.
If the first option is chosen, there will be the following choices:
- [SAVING THROW] Drink with the Brewer.
- [SLEIGHT OF HAND] Mime drinking. (DC 18)
- No. I will not drink.
- Attack.
Passing the Sleight of Hand will gain approval from some of the companions. He'll then ask to tell a story (Performance DC21) based on the party's adventures so far. Failure means a fight. This goes for three rounds. Asking him questions between drinks he'll slip up and tell:
- If asked how he became this way, he’ll say that it was his dad’s laughter.
- If asked about the curse, he'll reveal that it was indeed Ketheric’s doing and that he’s also responsible for keeping the curse active.
- If asked how Ketheric keeps the curse active, he’ll cryptically answer with the spirit of the land.
- If asked about Ketheric himself, he’ll just reaffirm his immortality, but also that he’s not.
- If asked what is Ketheric’s weakness he’ll slip and mention a “her” that he should not be talking about.
He’ll then rant about a tomb before finally recognising the party as someone dangerous. However it will be too late, he will have drank too much already and explode and die. The only thing of interest on the remains of his body is a Worn Key. Successfully drinking him to death earns the Inspirational Event Lack of Moderation is Key (Haunted One background). Drinking and resisting his brew earns the Inspirational Event I've Had Worse (Outlander background), whereas successfully pretending to drink earns the Inspirational Event Tricks of the Trade (Charlatan background).
