Tara, speaking to Gale

Overview[edit | edit source]

Background[edit | edit source]

Gale conjured Tara when he was ten years old, after his parents refused to give him a kitten. Tara and Gale's mom eventually became friends, with Tara visiting her after Gale left home. Tara affectionately refers to Gale as "the most expensive pet in Waterdeep", and later states that they both belong to each other.

Involvement[edit | edit source]

Act One[edit | edit source]

Tara first appears upon the first Long Rest of the game if Gale is chosen as origin. She will note Gale's somewhat ill appearance, and express concern. She will also provide Gale with a magic item, the Ring of Evasion, that he can consume when he awakes, to prevent the Netherese Orb from detonating. She will remain within the Campsite.

Act Three[edit | edit source]

Tara appears later - regardless of the player character - on the roof of the Open Hand Temple in Rivington. She is involved in the quest Find the Missing Letters Find the Missing Letters, and has unique dialogue when Gale is in the party. You can also get Ring of Blink here, whether you have Gale in your party or not.

Epilogue[edit | edit source]

Tara appears during the Epilogue, accompanying Gale to the party in most endings. If Gale reforged the Crown of Karsus Crown of Karsus and gave it to Mystra, then talking to Tara will cause her to invite the player character to her and Gale's tower, remembering the player character as "the one who saved Faerun alongside Mr Dekarios". If Gale reforged the Crown of Karsus and ascended to godhood, she will express disappointment in her friend's transformation and failure to learn from his past mistakes. If the player character transformed into an illithid to fight the Netherbrain, then Tara will remark that they must've sacrificed quite a bit to save Faerun.

Notable items sold[edit | edit source]

If spoken to with Gale in the party during the quest Find the Missing Letters, Tara appears on various rooftops in Lower City, selling one magical item each time. After buying this item and taking a Long Rest, you can find Tara on another rooftop, selling a new item.

Tara accepts most magical items and any type of Fish in exchange for her items. The fish are exchanged for their gold value and must be outside of a Camp Supply Sack in order to be seen in the bartering menu. Tara can also be pickpocketed for the item at each location.

Notes[edit | edit source]

  • Tressyms usually are unable to speak. Tara, however, is capable of speech, likely through external magical means.
  • Tara refuses to stop using Gale's surname, referring to him as "Mr. Dekarios".
  • Tara nags Gale about being single.
  • Gale asked "Halaster" - presumably Halaster - to take care of Tara in his absence
  • If the party offers a magical item in the barter screen, then clicks the "balance offer" button, money will be used to make up the difference. The party can then remove the original magical item offered and press the balance offer button again to top up the offer with gold. This is likely an exploit and may be patched out in future updates. (This was carried out on a PC without any money in their inventory, so it was added from another character's. Whether this is required is untested).
