Boo

Boo is the familiar and companion of Minsc. He is a miniature giant space hamster who Minsc can summon with  Find Familiar: Boo.

Boo is the one of the only beasts the player character cannot understand even while using Speak with Animals. However, Minsc asserts that Boo "speaks of much" and that maybe one day the player will be able to understand him.

Overview

Description

Boo is a small, fuzzy miniature giant space hamster (allegedly), and stalwart companion to Minsc. He has a strong sense of justice, unafraid of confronting evil and taking matters into his own tiny hands. Boo is observant, patient and wise, often using his knowledge to serve as a moral guide to Minsc.

Boo is somewhat wary of cats, and has a soft spot for Shadowheart.

Despite his diminutive size, he's usually unable to activate or enter burrows and tiny holes in walls. As Minsc often says, "Boo would squeeze through but he just had a big lunch."

Recruitment

Boo can be recruited along with Minsc only if Jaheira joined the party at the end of Act Two and the player character has completed  The High Harper. After Minsc is rescued in the Lower City Sewers, he will rush off to find Boo. The two can thereafter join the party.

History

Boo comes from a large family, having "many dozen cousins". He is the long time familiar and greater half of Minsc, ever since they met when Minsc was just a typical Rashemi berserker. Minsc was ambushed and injured, and was only just recovering when Boo appeared. Boo declared that Minsc had felt the "poking finger of justice", marking Minsc as its champion and Boo as his guide.

After the events of Shadows of Amn, both Boo and Minsc were ambushed by an unknown assailant and petrified in the middle of the marketplace in the Upper City in Baldur's Gate. They were released 80 years later, when Delina, a wild mage, accidentally struck the statue with a wild magic surge.

Minsc and Boo continued to travel together, but were separated for a time while Minsc was tricked into carrying out orders for the false Jaheira. Boo was trapped in a wall in the Lower City Sewers by Absolute cultists, who feared his righteous gaze.

Combat

Boo can be summoned by Minsc with  Find Familiar: Boo. He's unique as when thrown by Minsc he has a chance to inflict blind to the target (a reference to Minsc's quote "Go for the eyes, Boo!").
