Ground floor and second floor rooms
The front entrance to Rainforest's Home is located (X: -93 Y: -109), across Araj Oblodra's Crimson Draughts workshop. The mailbox contains two plain messages. Another way to get into the house is through the balcony at the rear side of the building (the balcony railing is broken, which allows to jump on it), or the party can try to find their way behind the fence using abilities like or a spell. The doors at the balcony and under it (X: -88 Y: -124) are red-lined, but not locked. On the balcony lies a Traveller's Chest ( DC 10 Sleight of Hand check to lockpick).
The front doors are locked and red-lined, too. The street is overlooked by a patrol of Flaming Fists and a Steel Watcher. Guards will hold the party for questioning if they are spotted lockpicking the doors. Using means of Invisibility or spells like is recommended.
The house itself is good-sized but has only necessary furniture within. The corpse of Alexander Rainforest without a hand, empty of any loot, lays on the second floor.
Under the Candulhallow's Tombstones shop. A message from Alexander's friends laying on the cabinet nearby implies that his mates considered Rainforest to be totally obsessed with unveiling the truth about this building.
spell Alexander's corpse will tell that he was an ombudsman in the docks, but has been working for some time on an investigation about pecularities in ownership history ofOn the first floor the player will spot another copy of Bloodstained Parchment with the list of murder targets ( DC 10 Perception check), lying conveniently near the basement hatch. On the dining table lies a book Urban Exploration - The Undercity!.
Ratin Sesescor
Ratin Sesescor is a buoyant rat that is randomly running around in ground and second floor rooms within the Rainforest's Home. If spoken to through spell, it will tell that Alexander had been his 'cheese-dropper' until the 'man in red' came and caused him to drop 'some tasty red morsels' instead of cheese. The Cheese Record book laying on the table next to bed sheds some light on Ratin's palates. If the player asks whether Ratin realises that it ate human innards, it will cynically mention that Alexander does not need them anymore.
Should the player continue to ask Ratin around, it will shoo them off with a bit of threat, saying that the character's own smell is rather delicious and tempts it to taste their own 'red morsels', even though this wouldn't be very polite.
Rainforest's Basement
The hatch under the stairs leads to the basement of Rainforest's Home.
Upon descending into the basement, the party may spot several traps (a Blast Mine and a Tripwire to set it off, both DC 15 Perception check) and see the ritual murder scene with makeshift altar and two Blue Dragonborn victims. The bloodied victim, Winslow Reginol, can be looted of Clown's Severed Foot and one of Orin's Ritual Letters, 'Abazigal, the Fourth'. On the altar lies a Potion of Feather Fall, a Rope and Faded Scroll of Reversal.
The door to the north leads into Rainforest's study with a desk, a cabinet, a Traveller's Chest and a Stack of Scrolls with Scroll of Fly in it. On the desk lie Alexander's Tombstone Shop Notes describing suspicious activity around this establishment. Gilded Chest on the cabinet and Traveller's Chest near it both contain small amount of gold and some random useful items (from common to rare).
On the wall above the Traveller's chest there is a notice board with two documents on it: Record of Ownership (a short summary of Alexander's investigation about Candulhallow's Tombstones), and Observation Notes, a letter from Zhentarim agent Roah Moonglow informing that Rainforest had hired her crew to watch the mysterious shop and revealing some insignificant results.
The eastern wall of the study at X: 1424 Y: 1050 is a disguised entrance to the rest part of the basement. Discovering it requires DC 15 Perception check. Behind the sliding wall there is another series of traps (same combination, same DC to percept). In the far corner of the hidden space, on a stone shelf stands a Wooden Chest with minor loot, and also some common weapons around. Near the chest lays Rainforest's Chest Key.
Small storeroom to the south is also provided with the same series of traps. It has a Strongbox in the eastern wall that can be opened with Rainforest's Chest Key or by succeeding DC 15 Sleight of Hand check. It contains gold and a random gem.
Notable loot
Notes
- One of the messages in the Alexander's mailbox is a copy of threatening letter addressed to Franc Peartree, another ill-fated victim of a serial killer, - obviously a mistake.
- The sliding wall as per current state of the game is visually marked as trapped (orange glow) and brings forth a corresponding banter line from the party member who spots it, but there actually are no traps to disarm. The wall, if percepted and used, just opens.
