Involvement

Act Three

Baldur's Mouth Gazette is the only edition distributed within Baldur's Gate City and its suburbs. Unsurprisingly, it has become a powerful tool for swaying minds of baldurians for Enver Gortash Enver Gortash, when he started his endeavour to bring the city to his heel.

To achieve this, the Archduke nominee won to his side Ettvard Needle Ettvard Needle, the editor-in-chief of the print medium. From the moment of their collusion, the gazette covers the city events solely and exclusively in favour of Gortash. The reporters are instructed to gather all the juiciest rumors and gossips, which later are cobbled into prejudiced and one-eyed articles.

As the plot goes on, the party might become an object of such slanted opinion on their actions. The Stop the Presses quest allows to find out all the lowdown of the gazette inner workings - and even to use it to their advantage.

The newspaper is a daily edition and can be bought for 2 gold pieces from News Hawkers positioned on several points throughout the city. All these are children trying to make some money for their families, though their attitude towards this occupation differs among the kids very much.

Also the newspaper can be bought from Lilly Beanbottom Lilly Beanbottom[1] , a newstrader in Rivington, and from Silfy Silfy[2], a tiefling girl previously met in Act One [3].

Epilogue

Articles may contradict one another

Several issues of Baldur's Mouth Gazette might be found pinned on the advertisement board in the Epilogue, near the Chest of Grateful Words. Those will reveal some events that happened between the final battle of the plot and the Epilogue, mostly reflecting the party's decisions through the game. However, some may turn out to be rather strange, containing headings contradictory to what the party's former companions tell them, or even clashing with one another.

Notes

  1. First issue available to buy
Buying a newspaper from Lilly Beanbottom at the very beginning of the Act Three also triggers the Investigate the Murders quest, if the party hasn't started it yet by entering the Open Hand Temple
  2. If spoken to, Silfy may be asked about Mol. She will say then, that Mol is 'somewhere in the city', and Silfy and other kids are going to join their leader 'as soon as the gate opens'. This might mean that Silfy was initially meant to sell the newspapers outside Baldur's Gate (in Rivington or Wyrm's Crossing), but eventually she was placed near the Heapside Strand waypoint.
  3. If the tiefling refugees survived events in the Emerald Grove
