Involvement
During the prologue, once the party enters the helm of the Nautiloid, the mind flayer will call them a thrall and command them to reach the helm before the Nautiloid crashes. A bunch of devils will arrive and combat will commence immediately after.
Combat
The mind flayer joins combat as an ally of the party. It will spend all of its turns focusing on fighting Zhalk, ignoring all other enemies. It is possible to apply beneficial conditions like to help it land hits against the formidable cambion, however if Zhalk dies it will claim the party is no longer needed and become hostile.
It is a unique mind flayer that has a slightly larger health pool than mind flayers encountered later in the game. It also does not gain on Tactician.
