Shadow Lantern image

Shadow Lantern is a unique type of Moonlantern which does not produce light and grants a unique summoning spell.

Description Icon.png

Encased in a cocoon of shadow within the lantern, the mangled pixie lies like some deformed pupa, its mouth slack, and those same shadows crawling over its graying tongue.

Where to find

  • Obtainable from Balthazar's hidden room in Moonrise Towers when Gale is in the party:
  • To access Balthazar's hidden room, interact with the top right Protruding Book and insert one of the human hearts from the room into the small Ancient Altar.
  • Within the hidden room, interact with the ritual circle with Gale and combine a Dead Pixie with a Broken Moonlantern.

Notes

  • This item is only obtainable with Gale in your party, and Gale has exclusive dialogue about Mystra and shadow magic before and after creating the lantern.
  • Allowing Gale to destroy the ritual instead grants him Mystra's Blessing, granting advantage on concentration checks. If the player destroys the circle, no benefit is granted.
  • Despite being tagged as a Rare item, the ingame tooltip for the Shadow Lantern is coloured as a Story Item, like other Moonlanterns.
  • As the flavour text suggests, unlike other Moonlanterns, the Shadow Lantern does not emit a bright sphere of light. Contrary to what the description may indicate, it also does not produce shadows, unlike Darkness.
