Gomwick is found dead in the Forest with Scratch the dog guarding him. Using Speak with Dead can reveal that he was courier on a delivery to Baldur's Gate.
Until Scratch has been calmed down, the dog will not allow Gomwick's body to be looted.
North of Gomwick's corpse is a small island, that allows the party to jump across the river and bypass the blighted village.
