The location of the Dark Amethyst in the Whispering Depths can be reached from the well or from the blacksmith's basement in the Blighted Village.

This item must be used to unlock the Necromancy of Thay. If using the book with the Dark Amethyst grants an option to insert it into the oval recess and unlock the tome.
