Hello! Hi! Over here! Me!
Naaber

Overview[edit | edit source]

Background[edit | edit source]

Naaber is a talkative adventurer who is trying out different classes to see which best suits.

Quest[edit | edit source]

Naaber has an unmarked quest:

  • Patience is a Virtue: We did the impossible - we listened to Naaber until he ran out of questions.

Involvement[edit | edit source]

Naaber is an aspiring adventurer, but hasn't yet decided what class he should be. Keep re-engaging and talking to him long enough and he will go through all the classes. (except druid, which is replaced with a dog) In the end he will have an epiphany, that multiclassing is a thing and concludes that he is a genius. Completing this miniquest, Naaber will be thankful for the conversation and reward the party.

The order in which Naaber tries classes is: Fighter; Barbarian; Bard; Cleric; Dog; Wizard; Warlock; Monk; Rogue; Ranger; Sorcerer; and Paladin.

Family[edit | edit source]

Naaber hails from a long line of talkative Noobers, who have also appeared in previous Baldur's Gate games. Using Speak with Dead on Naaber reveals that Noober is his great-grandfather, Nuuber (possibly Nüber) his grandfather and Niiber (possibly Neeber) his father.

Noober was the first of his kind, an annoyingly talkative man in the town of Nashkel in the first Baldur's Gate game. His name is a play on an slang word 'Noob'. He will follow the party spamming dialogue windows until either the party kills him or waits out all of his dialogue lines. This will give the party a reward in experience.

Neeber appears in Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, in the town of Trademeet.

Nüber can be met in Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear.

Loot[edit | edit source]

  • If killed, a tiny amount of gold can be looted.

Quest rewards[edit | edit source]

If the amulet was pickpocketed, he will instead reward:

Speak with Dead[edit | edit source]

As Naaber cannot stop talking, Naaber can answer more than the usual 5 questions. You also cannot leave the conversation without having asked at least 3 questions. The Narrator will mention that "The spell's power wanes - but the spirit refuses to be silent."

Party member: Who are you?

  • Naaber: I'm... Naaber...
  • Naaber: Son of... Niiber... son of... Nuuber...
  • Naaber: Descendant... of... Noober...
  • Naaber: Nice to... meet... you...
  • Naaber: Sorry not... to have... met you... properly... when I... was... still alive...
  • Naaber: Oh the... conversations... we could... have hade...

Party member: What were you doing before you died?

  • Naaber: I was... trying... to become...
  • Naaber: An adventurer... but I... couldn't... figure out... what... kind...
  • Naaber: Always... fancied myself... a bit of... a bard...
  • (if encouraged to be a Bard) Naaber: You... even... encouraged... me...
  • Naaber: But I... don't know... how to... play... an instrument...
  • Naaber: I guess... we'll never... find out... now...
  • Naaber: Shame... the stories... I could... have told...

Party member: Did you find your calling?

  • Naaber: Yes... I want to... be...
  • Naaber: Alive... But now... that I'm... dead...
  • Naaber: I will... have... to... try... even... harder... to be... heard...

Party member: What was your profession before you tried to be an adventurer?

  • Naaber: Once... I tried... to be... a shopkeeper...
  • Naaber: But... I never... made... enough... sales...
  • Naaber: I... never... understood... why... though...
  • Naaber: I... had... so many... nice... conversations... with... the customers...
  • Naaber: I... told... them... everything... there was... to know... about... the... produce...
  • Naaber: But... they... never... came... back...
  • Naaber: And that's... how I realised... I wasn't... supposed... to be... a shopkeeper...

Party member: Do you have any regrets?

  • Naaber: My... only... wish...
  • Naaber: Was... to... make... friends..
  • Naaber: And... I... met... you...
  • Naaber: So... I have... no... regrets...

Party member: Have you always been so talkative?

  • Naaber: My... father... learned... from his father... who learned... from his father...
  • Naaber: That... we... have... to be... persistent...
  • Naaber: He always... said... if at first... people don't... listen...
  • Naaber: Keep... trying... and trying...
  • Naaber: And... trying... and... trying...
  • Naaber: And... trying... and... trying...
  • Naaber: Ha... ha... us... Noobers... sure do... like... to talk...

Party member: Has anyone ever told you you're really annoying?

  • Naaber: Many... people...
  • Naaber: Many... times...
  • Naaber: But... I... try not... to... let it... get... to me...
  • Naaber: I've... always... been... upbeat...
  • Naaber: I... don't... understand... why... everyone... else... isn't... the same... way...
  • Naaber: Isn't it... lovely... to talk... to someone...?

Party member: Will you ever shut up?

  • Naaber: Maybe... some day...
  • Naaber: But... not... today...
  • Naaber: Did... I... ever... tell... you... about... that... time... I tried... to be... a chef?
  • Naaber: It... was... three... years... ago... but... I... remember it... like... yesterday...
  • Naaber: First... I tried... to be... a... pastry... chef...
  • Naaber: But... butter... gives me... gas...
  • Naaber: Then... I... tried... to... specialise... in... fish...
    • Narrator: *Time passes. You can practically feel your hairs growing, and your eyes watering from trying to stay awake.*
      • Naaber: And... that's... how... I... realised... that... being a... chef... wasn't... for me...

Party member: How do I make this stop?

  • Narrator: *The corpse remains silent. It does not know.*

(if no questions asked) Party member: Leave.

  • Naaber: Wait... we have... only... just... started... talking...

(if one question asked) Party member: Leave.

  • Naaber: Don't... leave... yet...

(if two questions asked) Party member: Leave.

  • Naaber: Don't... you... want... to... know... more...
  • Naaber: About... my... life?

(if three questions asked) Party member: Leave.

  • Naaber: Why... are... you... leaving... me...
  • Naaber: I... have so much... more... to tell... you...
    • Narrator: *His body longs to rest, but his spirit doesn't stop talking, even as he returns to what one can only hope are the deepest depths of the Hells.*
