Akabi is an NPC encountered in Baldur's Gate 3 during Chapter Three. He is a performer at the Circus of the Last Days in Rivington, located at X: -68 Y: -75 where he can be found hosting a Spin the Wheel game.

Chapter Three

When approached, Akabi will invite the player to participate and Spin the Wheel for 500 gold, claiming that they could potentially win jackpot. The player can try multiple times as long as they have the gold for it. Even if they do not win the jackpot, Akabi will give the player various consolation prizes on their attempts. If Akabi has given out all possible prizes, he will no longer allow the player to participate in the game.

A successful DC20 Perception check will reveal that Akabi is cheating in order to prevent anyone from winning the jackpot. He will deny any accusations and will offer the player to either spin again or, if provoked, be transformed into a cheese wheel for 20 turns. Akabi will refuse to let anyone play who has been transformed by him in this way, but other characters can still participate.

To win the jackpot, Akabi will need to be pickpocketed for his Djinni Ring (buying the ring from him during conversation also works). Once the ring is stolen, any subsequent attempt will win the jackpot. However, Akabi will be enraged and transport the contestant to the Jungle. After this, Akabi will close down the game permanently.

Prizes

Notes

  • Half of the "prizes" one could win doesn't actually do anything at all. But the remaining half does each function as actual equipment.
    • The +1 Breastplate is just a normal Breastplate with a different name and description.
    • Eternal Carafe of Wine (Or Sometimes Acid) will give the Caustic Brine condition to its user, and they will take 1d4 acid damage
    • Boots of Very Fast Blinking grants a per turn free casting of Misty Step Misty Step, a very powerful item, except the user will be stripped naked down to their underwear on every usage, the stripped articles of clothing will be left on the spot the user teleported from. The user's inventory, equipped accessories, weapons, and the boots themselves will stay with the user. Despite the comical drawback It's possible to build around this limitation.
    • Unlucky Thief's Gloves provides a +2 bonus to Sleight of Hand checks (which is used in pickpocketing), and gives the user a free piece of charcoal whenever they successfully pickpockets an item. The charcoal has no weight and is worth 2 gold pieces.
    • Reverse Rain Cloak, when equipped, renders the user Wet. This makes them vulnerable to cold and lightning damage, but resistant to fire damage, and is immune to the Burning Condition. The user will also have their accumulated blood and dirt washed away upon equipping due to the wet condition.
    • Staff of a Mumbling Wizard, when equipped, gives the user a 100% hit chance Fire Bolt Fire Bolt cantrip. But it has a 10% chance of spawning a Fireball Fireball centered on the caster with every use of the cantrip. Pairs well with the Reverse Rain Cloak.
    • Comeback Handaxe, despite its description, doesn't go back to the user violently when thrown. It doesn't return to the user at all. It is however, still a magical Handaxe with a +1 enchantment.
    • Bag of Moulding indeed turns all inserted food into mouldy and rotten version of themselves. These can still be used as camp supplies without any functional loss other than the potentially decreased value, and can be stacked with each other if the camp supply value is the same. Drinks are immune to this effect
  • If all 16 prizes are taken, by asking to spin again normally Akabi will permanently close down the game. In order to obtain everything, including the jackpot, one must have 8500 gold in hand, spin the wheel normally 16 times, and on the 17th win the jackpot.
