The Githyanki Warrior is the Companion Quest for Lae'zel Lae'zel. It is automatically added to the journal when she formally joins the party in Act One.

Objectives[edit | edit source]

Objectives and journal entries may vary pending story decisions and outcomes.

Act 1 - Wilderness:
Help Lae'zel find a Githyanki Crèche.
  • The githyanki warrior Lae'zel has joined our party, and promised we could be cleansed of our parasites at a Githyanki Crèche. We should be on the lookout for signs of githyanki presence during our travels.
Find Zorru. / Talk to Zorru.
  • The githyanki warrior Lae'zel has joined our party, and promised we could be cleansed of our parasites at a Githyanki Crèche. A tiefling named Zorru has seen other githyanki. We should find him and ask him what he knows.
  • A tiefling named Zorru appears to have seen other githyanki. We should find him and ask him what he knows.

Search for signs of a Githyanki Crèche near the mountain pass in the northwest.
  • We spoke to Zorru. He told us he saw githyanki on the road to Baldur's Gate, near a mountain pass in the northwest. We should travel there with Lae'zel.
  • We spoke to a tiefling named Zorru who told us he saw githyanki on the road to Baldur's Gate, near a mountain pass in the northwest. We should travel there with Lae'zel.
  • We spoke to a tiefling's corpse. It hinted that we might find more githyanki near a mountain pass in the northwest. We should travel there with Lae'zel.
  • A red dragon - the sort ridden by githyanki knights - passed us overhead as we travelled the Risen Road. The githyanki Zorru spoke of could be near.
Go to Lae'zel near the mountain pass in the northwest.
  • We found a group of githyanki, and Lae'zel ran ahead to speak with them. We should join her.
Continue searching for a Githyanki Crèche near the mountain pass in the northwest.
  • A githyanki knight called Kith'rak Voss set his warriors upon us before we could learn where to find a crèche. We must defeat them.
  • We avoided battle with a githyanki knight called Kith'rak Voss. He and his warriors left the area, leaving us with no clues as to the exact whereabouts of a Githyanki Crèche.
Examine the githyanki for clues as to a crèche's location.
  • We defeated Sarth Baretha and her squadron - we should search her body for more information about the nearby crèche.
  • The githyanki warrior Lae'zel has joined our party, and promised we could be cleansed of our parasites at a Githyanki Crèche. She suggested we might find a clue to one's location on one of the warriors we defeated.
Travel to the mountain pass.
  • The githyanki warrior Lae'zel has joined our party, and promised we could be cleansed of our parasites at a Githyanki Crèche. According to a map we found, there's one nestled in the mountains, beyond the western bridge.
  • We found a map that revealed a Githyanki Crèche was nestled in the mountains beyond the western bridge, inside a temple. We should travel there with Lae'zel.
  • The githyanki called Kith'rak Voss revealed that a Githyanki Crèche was nestled in the mountains beyond the western bridge. We should travel there with Lae'zel.
Act 1 - Rosymorn Monastery Trail:
Find the Githyanki Crèche in the mountain pass.
  • We arrived at the mountain pass. We should look for the Githyanki Crèche hidden within it.
Regroup with Lae'zel and search for the crèche.
  • Lae'zel has left the party to seek the Githyanki Crèche within the mountain pass. We should join her there.
Find the entrance to the crèche.
  • We found evidence that the githyanki have established a crèche in an abandoned monastery within the mountain pass. We should look for the entrance there.
  • We regrouped with Lae'zel. She has found evidence that the githyanki have established a crèche in an abandoned monastery within the mountain pass. We should look for the entrance there.
  • A pair of githyanki have escorted several cultists into the monastery. The entrance to their crèche must be inside.
  • We defeated a pair of githyanki at the gates of a monastery. We should investigate further; their crèche may be hidden inside.
Help Lae'zel find the tadpole purification device.
  • We've infiltrated the Githyanki Crèche. We should locate the device used to cleanse the infected.
  • We defeated the sentries guarding the crèche. We must continue searching for a cure.
  • We've gained access to the Githyanki Crèche. We should locate the curative device - but doing so might require some finesse.
Go to the Crèche Infirmary.
  • The githyanki sentries directed us to the infirmary. We should take Lae'zel there: the cure to our tadpole awaits us.
Speak to the doctor of the crèche.
  • We have found the crèche infirmary. We should speak to Ghustil Stornugoss about a cure.
  • Ghustil Stornugoss is waiting at her desk. We should tell her about the parasite in our heads.
Sit in the zaith'isk.
  • We attacked and defeated Ghustil Stornugoss. We should try operating the zaith'isk ourselves.
  • We told Ghustil Stornugoss about the parasites, and she's willing to help us. But first, we must sit in the zaith'isk.
Speak to Lae'zel about the incident with the zaith'isk.
  • Instead of extracting Lae'zel's tadpole, the zaith'isk nearly killed her. We should talk with her about it.
  • Instead of extracting the tadpole, the zaith'isk nearly killed us while Lae'zel looked on. We should speak to her about it.
  • Instead of extracting the tadpole, the zaith'isk nearly killed us. We should speak to Lae'zel about it.
Take Lae'zel to the Inquisitor.
  • Lae'zel believes the zaith'isk was tampered with and is eager to inform the Inquisitor at the crèche. We should escort her to him.
Defeat Ch'r'ai W'wargaz.
  • Ch'r'ai W'wargaz demanded that we hand over the artefact, and attacked us when we refused. We must defeat him.
  • We attacked Ch'r'ai W'wargaz. We must defeat him.
Return to the Inquisitor's chamber.
  • Ch'r'ai W'wargaz is defeated. We should examine his chamber for more information about the artefact that we carry.
Insert the artefact into the Planecaster, venture inside, and find the prisoner.
  • Queen Vlaakith appeared as a projection in the Inquisitor's chamber. She wants us to enter the artefact and slay a prisoner held inside it; Lae'zel has urged us to do as the queen has bidden.
  • We entered the artefact. We must find the prisoner inside it.
Return to the Githyanki Crèche.
  • We discovered that the artefact's prisoner is the figure in our dreams. We cannot kill them without losing our protection against the Absolute's voice. We should enter the portal and return to the crèche.
Defeat Ch'r'ai W'wargaz.
  • Ch'r'ai W'wargaz attacked us after we returned to the crèche, on Vlaakith's orders. He must be defeated.
Speak to Lae'zel about the events at the Githyanki Crèche.
  • Lae'zel was unable to fulfil Queen Vlaakith's command. We should talk to her.
  • We failed to fulfil Vlaakith's orders, and provoked the Githyanki Crèche. Lae'zel should know what happened.
  • We left the Inquisitor's chamber without entering the artefact. We should talk to Lae'zel about it.
Give Lae'zel time to think.

We failed to extract the mind flayer parasite and made an enemy of Queen Vlaakith. Lae'zel needs time to consider the ramifications.

Help Lae'zel regain Vlaakith's favour.
  • Kith'rak Voss appeared at our campsite, seeking allies in his mission to free the githyanki people from Vlaakith's tyranny. We attacked and defeated him. Lae'zel believes this is the first step in proving her loyalty to Queen Vlaakith.
Travel to Baldur's Gate.
  • Kith'rak Voss appeared at our campsite and claimed the one in the artefact is the key to liberating the githyanki people from Vlaakith's tyranny. We agreed to meet him in Baldur's Gate, where he knows of someone who can break the artefact's resident free.
  • We found a letter Kith'rak Voss carried, suggesting he was meeting someone in Baldur's Gate, at an establishment called Sharess' Caress. We should pay this mysterious contact a visit.
  • We defeated Ketheric Thorm, but the Absolute remains a danger. We should travel to Baldur's Gate and eliminate the elder brain. This could end the threat of the illithid Grand Design and fulfil Lae'zel's duty as a githyanki warrior.
Talk to Lae'zel about Orpheus.
  • We discovered that an ancient githyanki prince called Orpheus was being held prisoner inside the artefact. We should talk to Lae'zel about him.
Find a way to free Orpheus from his domed prison.
  • Vlaakith appeared to us in camp and made Lae'zel an offer: kill Orpheus, and she will ascend Lae'zel to the Astral Plane and honour her as her Chosen. Lae'zel refused, angering Vlaakith. Lae'zel believes Orpheus is the way forward for the githyanki; we should free him at the first possible opportunity.

Walkthrough[edit | edit source]

Recruiting Lae'zel[edit | edit source]

Lae'zel is first encountered on the Nautiloid in the Prologue, but can only become a full companion in Act One. If Lae'zel survived the Nautiloid crash, she can be found in a cage north of the Roadside Cliffs Waypoint at X: 224 Y: 372. If Lae'zel died on the Nautiloid, her corpse can be found on the Ravaged Beach and revived using a Scroll of Revivify. Lae'zel can also be encountered at Mountain Pass near the githyanki patrol.

Finding the crèche[edit | edit source]

For detailed information on finding the crèche, see Find the Githyanki Crèche.

Immediately upon recruiting Lae'zel, she insists on traveling to the nearest crèche. She claims that the crèche houses a Zaith'isk, a sacred device that can cure the infected of their tadpoles through purification. If Free Lae'zel Free Lae'zel was completed, the party learns that a Tiefling named Zorru Zorru had recently encountered a Githyanki patrol. Zorru can be found in the Druid Grove near the storage barn. If the party interacts with Zorru while Lae'zel is in the party, he admits encountering Githyanki near the Mountain Pass.

When the party arrives at the Mountain Pass, they find Voss Kith'rak Voss and a squadron of Githyanki. Voss interrogates the party on the location of a stolen Githyanki artefact, which is polyhedric and inscribed with Githyanki runes. If Shadowheart Shadowheart is in the party, she realises that he is seeking the Mysterious Artefact that she carries. If Voss learns that the party possesses the artefact or that they are infected with tadpoles, the Githyanki become hostile. Otherwise, Voss instructs them to return to the crèche, and the encounter ends peacefully.

Conflict at camp[edit | edit source]

During a Long Rest after the Githyanki encounter, Lae'zel Lae'zel confronts Shadowheart Shadowheart over the Mysterious Artefact. Lae'zel demands possession of the artefact, but Shadowheart refuses. Although they state an agreement to a duel at sunrise to settle their conflict, the player character wakes up during the night to Shadowheart holding a knife to Lae'zel's neck. If nothing is done, Shadowheart slits Lae'zel's neck and smashes her parasite as it crawls out. The player character can defend Lae'zel, causing Shadowheart to become permanently hostile or Shadowheart can be persuaded to peacefully end the conflict by passing a DC 10 Persuasion check.

Arriving at the crèche[edit | edit source]

Creche Y'llek is in the basement of Rosymorn Monastery. Stornugoss Ghustil Stornugoss can be found in the Crèche Y'llek Infirmary, where she claims that she can purify the party of infection through using a Zaith'isk. If the party agrees to purification, they learn that the Zaith'isk extracts the memories of the infected and then kills them. Whoever steps in the Zaith'isk must undergo saving throws to prevent -2 debuffs to Wisdom, Intelligence, and Constitution. This debuff can be removed by consuming a Tadpole. The Zaith'isk ultimately explodes. Lae'zel questions whether the Ghustil is corrupted, demanding that the party must report her to the captain, Therezzyn Kith'rak Therezzyn.

Confronting the Inquisitor[edit | edit source]

In the Captain's Chambers, the Kith'rak of the crèche is arguing with an Inquisitor. A pathway leading through the Captain's Chamber is blocked by a Githyanki Barrier Disruptor at X: 1390 Y: -757. To open the path, a Gith Shard must be obtained from Therezzyn Kith'rak Therezzyn. Inquisitor W'wargaz Ch'r'ai W'wargaz recognizes the party and allows them entry. Alternatively, if the Kith'rak is shown the artefact, she demands that the party speak with the Inquisitor immediately.

In the Inquisitor's Chambers, Ch'r'ai bids the party to talk to him. If the party refuses, he grows impatient and becomes hostile. If the party speaks with him, he reveals that the Githyanki have been following the party's movements because of their involvement with the Absolute.

Vlaakith wishes to kill the Dream Visitor.

The Inquisitor demands the artefact. The party can ask questions or attempt to offer the artefact, which causes Vlaakith Vlaakith to appear through the Planecaster. If the party refuses, Ch'r'ai and the other Githyanki in the room will become hostile. Ch'r'ai is joined in combat by Ardent Jhe'rezath Jhe'rezath, Raider Kyrr'a'ath Kyrr'a'ath, Warrior Brelal'reth Brelal'reth, and Ardent Qu'th Qu'th. After this, Vlaakith appears to confront the party and demands the death of the individual within the artefact, claiming they are corrupting the object, which is actually an Astral Prism.

When the party enters the prism, the Dream Visitor will only speak with the player character. The Dream Visitor explains that the power used to protect the party from the Absolute was stolen from the Githyanki. Additionally, the Visitor knows that Vlaakith's empire is illegitimate and that she does not possess the same power that Mother Gith did. The Visitor believes this is why Vlaakith wants them dead. The Visitor kneels and offers a blade to the player character, stating that they can strike down the Visitor if they believe it is right. If the player character attempts to kill the Visitor, it appears to die from the wound, but then returns and expresses dissapointment by the betrayal.

After this conversation, the party returns to the Material Plane. If the Inquisitor is still alive, he immediately attacks the party. After this, the entire crèche becomes hostile and the party can fight their way through, attempt to sneak out, or escape through the Secret Stairway from the quest Find the Blood of Lathander Find the Blood of Lathander. The entire area becomes hostile, so fast travel is no longer possible.

Vlaakith or Orpheus[edit | edit source]

The betrayal by the Inquisitor causes Lae'zel to question her loyalty. While she wants to believe that Vlaakith is testing her faith, she is swayed by Kith'rak Voss, who enters the camp during a Long Rest. If Lae'zel agrees to listen to him, Voss claims that Vlaakith is a pretender and that the true Prince, Orpheus Orpheus, is the key to their race's future. He asks the party to meet him at Sharess' Caress in Baldur's Gate, which initiates Help Kith'rak Voss Help Kith'rak Voss. If Lae'zel refuses to listen to Voss, he becomes hostile, and the party learns that he planned to meet a mysterious contact at Sharess' Caress.

An alternative path opens up by avoiding the confrontation with Vlaakith. The simplest way to do this is by avoiding the crèche entirely. However, another option is to avoid the Inquisitor in his chambers and instead move to the western hallway. Here, there are two statues that open up the way to a secret stairway. If the party enters this stairway and makes it past the traps (documented in Find the Blood of Lathander Find the Blood of Lathander), they can obtain The Blood of Lathander. Choosing to do this without first using the Dawnmaster's Crest activates a Solar Machine that destroys the entire crèche (and kills any party members who fail to escape in time). If the creche storyline was not fully resolved (either by destroying the creche or speaking to the inquisitor), then Lae'zel eventually confronts the party and says she intends to go back, unless passing a DC 6 Intimidation check. Because Lae'zel has not been betrayed by Vlaakith, she happily obeys her queen. In Act Three, Vlaakith orders Lae'zel to kill the heretic prince Orpheus who dwells within the Astral Prism. If she does this, Lae'zel shall become Baht t'Vlaakith, the leader of her army.

If the creche situation was not resolved in Act One, and Lae'zel intends the pledge loyalty to her queen, there is the option to pass a DC 18 Arcana check to read Vlaakith's mind, which reveals the truth about the Zaith'isk, and Vlaakith's intention to consume Lae'zel, instead of rewarding her. After a DC 18 Wisdom check, the player character can use the tadpole to share this information with Lae'zel, and she will turn against Vlaakith and vow to free Orpheus.

Lae'zel can be convinced to return to Vlaakith even after speaking with Voss and being betrayed by Vlaakith. This is accomplished by passing a DC 30 Persuasion check when the party enters Rivington. Vlaakith appears in camp and urges Lae'zel to betray Voss, claiming that he is a liar. Choose "Kneel, Lae'zel. To be the god-queen's Chosen is an extraordinary honour." Lae'zel returns to Vlaakith as a faithful servant.

Killing Kith'rak Voss (determinant)[edit | edit source]

If Vlaakith did not betray Lae'zel, then Voss does not appear in camp and cannot be found in Sharess' Caress nor the sewers. Instead, Vlaakith orders Lae'zel to kill Orpheus, and Lae'zel remains unaware of Voss' betrayal. However, if Lae'zel turned on Voss, then she demands for the party to hunt him down as an enemy of Vlaakith. This can be done either in Sharess' Caress or in the sewers.

Freeing Orpheus[edit | edit source]

For detailed information on freeing Orpheus, see Free Orpheus.

Regardless of who Lae'zel allies with, she needs to free Orpheus to either save him or slay him. To break his bonds, she needs the Orphic Hammer. The devil Raphael Raphael owns such a hammer. In exchange for the hammer, Raphael wants the party to turn over the Crown of Karsus Crown of Karsus after the Elder Brain has been defeated. The party can choose to do this as part of Deal with the Devil Deal with the Devil. If the party regrets their choice, they can Escape the Deal Escape the Deal by breaking into Raphael's House of Hope and stealing the contract. The party can also break into the House of Hope to steal the hammer, if they chose not to make the deal. If the party has allied with Voss, they can show him the hammer to gain the Silver Sword of the Astral Plane. After the hammer is obtained, the party must wait for a chance to return to the Astral Prism.

Back in the Astral Prism[edit | edit source]

During the events of Confront the Elder Brain Confront the Elder Brain, the party find themselves back in the Astral Prism after failing to control the Elder Brain, which has transformed into a Netherbrain. The Emperor The Emperor rescues the party by spiriting them away into the Astral Prism. Here, the party learns the Emperor's plan - to assimilate Orpheus to gain his powers, then take on the Netherbrain.

If Lae'zel is aligned with Vlaakith, she is happy to let the Emperor assimilate Orpheus, as it fulfills her mission for her queen. If the party causes the Emperor to leave and rejoin the Netherbrain, Lae'zel must be convinced to delay her assassination until after the Netherbrain has been destroyed.

If Lae'zel allies with Orpheus and is brought to the Astral Prism, a DC 30 Persuasion check must be passed to assimilate Orpheus without her becoming hostile. Otherwise, Lae'zel turns on the party and must be killed. Otherwise, the party must refuse the Emperor and free Orpheus. Without an illithid, however, someone must choose to transform - either a party member or Orpheus himself. Lae'zel can become distressed at Orpheus if he decides to become an illithid, but she does not become hostile on this matter.

Additionally, if the party seeks to free Orpheus but did not go to the House of Hope, Raphael appears with the hammer, but the party is forced to Fulfill the Deal Fulfill the Deal and hand over the Crown of Karsus after the battle.

Lae'zel's choice[edit | edit source]

Lae'zel's quest culminates in one final choice after the Netherbrain has been defeated. She can choose to either return to the Astral Sea with Orpheus or Vlaakith (or alone to start a rebellion in Orpheus' name), or she can be persuaded to remain with her newly found friends in Faerun. For those who choose to romance Lae'zel, they can ride off with her on a Red Dragon.
