Mimics are a type of Monstrosity creature in Baldur's Gate 3. They often resemble ordinary chests and devour unaware prey that attempt to open them.

About Mimics

Mimics can transform to take on the appearance of ordinary objects, often resembling that of treasure chests. They lie in wait and grow long tentacles and reveal sharp teeth, feasting on unaware prey that get close.

Attacks

Bite:

Bite a target and possibly swallow its weapon.

D8 Piercing.png 1d8 + 3 (4~11) Damage TypesPiercing (Strength save to negate)
  • On Hit: Make a DC 13  Strength saving throw the target's main hand weapon will be disarmed and consumed. Warlocks and Eldritch Knight are immune to this if using a bonded weapon. Weapon can be looted off the Mimic once slain, though will be lost if the Mimic is knocked into a chasm.

Pseudopod Lash:

Lash out with a tongue-like appendage to reduce the target's AC by 2 and pull it  Range: 6 m / 20 ft closer.

D6 Acid.png 2d6 + 3 (5~15) Damage TypesAcid
  • Pulls struck target  Range: 6 m / 20 ft closer. This move can cause fall damage or even fling someone into a chasm, if they are in the right position.

Tactics

Mimics are very much ambushers, using their ability to disguise to take their enemies by surprise. When a character approaches a Mimic while disguised, they will make a Perception Skill Check at DC 20. If failed, that character will be Surprised as the fight starts.

The best approach is to get up close to a Mimic before it can use it's lash attack, which can fling someone to a swift end down a chasm in the case of the Mimics in Grymforge. It is also wise to keep extra weapons on hand in case a character has theirs eaten from their bite attack or relying on your companions to kill the mimic to retrieve it from it's corpse.

Because of their low Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma they are vulnerable to spells involving such Saving Throws.
