Walkthrough
In order to receive this quest, the party must be on good terms with the tiefling children in the Grove. A variety of quests influence how Mol sees them:
- - Not threatening the tiefling children
- Mirkon from the Harpies - Saving
- Meli keeping the locket - Resolving the conflict with
- Arabella from Teela - Saving
The most effective way to gain Mol's respect is to rescue Mirkon. He informs the party about the location of the tiefling hideout and the password needed to enter, allowing a simple path forward. Once inside, Mol greets the party and thanks them for all the good deeds they've done for the children. Choosing "Thought you might need help with something" causes Mol to request stealing the Idol of Silvanus as revenge for hurting Arabella and the other tiefling refugees. Agreeing to steal the idol starts the quest. If not choosing the dialogue option to help Mol the party will be blocked out of the quest and its reward.
The Idol of Silvanus is in the center of the Sacred Pool X: 243 Y: 507 right in the middle of the Rite of Thorns ritual and surrounded by druids. Stealing the idol while the ritual is underway starts a cutscene where the signal is given and the druids commence a pre-arranged slaughter of every tiefling within the Grove. The druids will also be hostile to the party. Since the fight happens in real time, leaving the tieflings to their fate or not moving quickly enough to defend as many of them as possible, causes them to be killed by the Emerald Grove druids. The final stand takes place in the makeshift prison where all the tiefling civilians are holed up. If enough of them are killed then is completed as a failed quest. It should be noted that Zevlor is usually one of the first to fall since he faces First Druid Kagha in battle.
However, the Idol can be stolen without angering the druids, if
has been completed and the Rite stopped (but this quest has to be started before stopping the ritual or it will not be offered). After this, the party can use sneaking skills to stealthily steal the idol. Spells like , , and are also immensely helpful. can also be used to throw the idol far enough away that the druids will not observe a party member picking it up.If the party is caught, the druids can still be bypassed with a DC 15 Deception, or Intimidation check.
Another option to avoid getting caught is to hide, steal the idol, and fast travel before being talked to by a druid. If returning to the grove, the druids will no longer become hostile. Returning to Mol will still trigger normal quest dialog.
Quest Reward
Notes
- After completing the quest, the idol can be bought back (or pickpocketed) from Mol, the price depends on character's Charisma and standing with Mol allowing the bonuses to be kept.
- It's not possible to start this quest if you finish , or anything that decides the grove's fate prior to talking with Mol.
