- This book is presented as a dramatization of the events of Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn which took place in the capital city of Amn - Athkatla after the defeat of Sarevok in the previous game.
- In the opening chapter of Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, Jaheira's husband, Khalid, had been tortured and killed by Jon Irenicus, thus explaining why some of the pages from the earlier chapters of Jaheira's copy would have been defaced or torn out.
