You value the arts of stealth and subterfuge, bending the shadows to your will to strike without warning.

Way of Shadow is one of the subclasses of Monk Monk. It can be chosen at level 3. These monks are more specialized in using the shadows to quietly strike their foes.

Subclass Features

This subclass obtains all the features from its base class, Monk, in addition to its unique features outlined below.

Level 3

Minor Illusion Minor Illusion (Cantrip)
Create an illusion that compels nearby creatures to investigate. You can remain hidden while casting this spell. This spell can be cast while you are Silenced Silenced.

Shadow Arts

Ability Ki Points Description
Shadow Arts: Hide Shadow Arts: Hide Use a Bonus action to hide from enemies by succeeding Stealth Checks. Stick to the dark and avoid enemy sightlines. Attacking or casting a spell will reveal your location.
Shadow Arts: Pass Without Trace Shadow Arts: Pass Without Trace 2 Call forth a veil of shadows and silence that gives you and all nearby companions a +10 bonus to Stealth Checks. Equivalent to the spell Pass Without Trace.
Shadow Arts: Darkness Shadow Arts: Darkness 2 Create a dark shroud that heavily Obscures and Blinds creatures within. Creatures cannot make ranged attacks into or out of it. Equivalent to the spell Darkness.
Shadow Arts: Darkvision Shadow Arts: Darkvision 2 Grant a creature the ability to see into the dark out to a range of  Range: 12 m / 40 ft. Equivalent to the spell Darkvision.
Shadow Arts: Silence Shadow Arts: Silence 2 Create a sound-proof sphere. All within are Silenced Silenced and Immune toDamage TypesThunder damage. Equivalent to the spell Silence.

Level 5

Cloak of Shadows Cloak of Shadows
Wrap yourself in shadows to become Invisible Invisible if you are Obscured.
Invisibility ends early if you attack, cast a spell, take an action, or take damage.

Level 6

Shadow Step Shadow Step
Teleport from shadow to shadow. Afterwards, you have Advantage Icon.png Advantage on your next melee Attack roll.
Both the origin and the destination must be at least Lightly Obscured to use this skill.

Level 11

Shadow Strike Shadow Strike
Use an Action and 3Ki Points to teleport to a foe from a hidden position, striking them with the creeping, psychic ferocity of the shadows themselves.
Deals an extra 3d8Damage TypesPsychic damage in addition to your weapon's damage.
Shadow Strike: Unarmed Shadow Strike: Unarmed
Use an Action and 3Ki Points to teleport to a foe from a hidden position, striking them with the creeping, psychic ferocity of the shadows themselves.
Deals an extra 3d8Damage TypesPsychic damage in addition to your unarmed strike damage.
