Talk:Rescue Orin's Victim
Orin Kidnapping Priority
Trying to figure out what triggers the kidnapping and I think it's correct to say that it's based on approval ratings. Reason being, I poked around in the game files and found this helpful note:
"The first longrest in Lower City, Orin will abduct one of the players companion. (Lae’zel, Halsin, Gale or Minthara). Based on the players approval rating with them. (Friend, Good Friend and Romance) Highest approval will be the highest priority." The file name I found it in is CAMP_OrinAbduction_CFM_Laezel.html
I also found a note in Yenna's dialogue as follows: "When no valid companion for abduction is available, Orin instead abducts Yenna - a beggar child who previously greeted players when they entered Wyrm’s Crossing, and who subsequently keeps appearing in their camp. Appearing as Yenna, Orin will try to get the player to drink a poisoned soup, before revealing herself. She tells the player that the real Yenna is in the Bhaal Temple, and gives them an ultimatum about killing Gortash and retrieving the Netherstone. If they do this, then she will not kill Yenna, and will duel the player instead."
I've done testing and here's my own results:
- Tav, Astarion and Halsin poly romance
- Laezel: 100 approval
- Gale: 99 approval
- Halsin: 58 approval (Romanced)
My experience as of the current patch:
- Gale, Lae'zel in party - Yenna kidnapped
- Lae'zel in party - Gale kidnapped
- No potential kidnapping victims in the party - Lae'zel kidnapped
I tested this both in the camp version and the sewers version. They were both the same in priority.
I also went and got the last bit of Gale approval so Lae'zel and Gale were equal. Lae'zel was prioritized over Gale if both have the max approval.
Additionally, I wasn't totally satisfied with the approval numbers since they were so close. So I made an effort to anger Gale a bit and got him down to 62 approval. Lae'zel remained at 100 approval. Lae'zel was taken and not Gale.
That said, it is possible for romanced companions to be kidnapped. However, it is hard, as they are the lowest priority (lower than Yenna). To do this, you have to tell Yenna to leave when she begs to stay at camp. I tested this on my Halsin romance save and it happened immediately - I tried 3 times to get Halsin to trigger, and I couldn't do it until I kicked Yenna out.
I am very curious about the romance metric. I'm running through a Gale romance right now but I'm not at a point where I can test the kidnapping yet. I will report back with more results when I have them. It would also be helpful for others to share their approval ratings, who was in their party, who they romanced, and who got kidnapped.

Avoiding the kidnapping
It is actually possible to avoid the kidnapping before confronting Orin, unless they've changed it. There are ground triggers for the kidnap event. The east one can simply be avoided. The north one can be avoided by having a character blink over it, then activate the waypoint behind it. The party can then use the waypoint as needed to access the north sewers / catacombs, bypassing the trigger.
