The Mind flayer is a notable Mind Flayer that appears to be dying when the party encounters it in the Nautiloid Wreck on the Ravaged Beach in Act One.

Involvement

The mind flayer can be seen weakened and trapped under some debris. If the party decides to talk to it, it will attempt to telepathically control the party member into leaning in so that it can consume their brain. The party member can attempt to resist with any of the following options:

  • [WISDOM] Resist the intrusion with everything you have. (DC 5)
  • [DRACONIC BLOODLINE] [CHARISMA] You host the blood of a mighty dragon. Channel its will to resist the abomination. (DC 5 Advantage Icon.png)
  • [WILD MAGIC] [CHARISMA] Steel your will and allow your untamed magic to unbalance the creature's mind. (DC 5 Advantage Icon.png)
  • [SORCERER] [CHARISMA] Draw on your willpower. Improvise a mental shield against the creature's hungry mind. (DC 5 Advantage Icon.png)

Failing to resist the mind flayer, or willingly submitting to it, results in the immediate death of the interacting party member. The mind flayer then recovers HP, becoming a Weakened Mind Flayer, and becomes hostile to any remaining party members.

Otherwise, the party member will end the mind flayer's life.
