Is there a difference between "triggering" and "discovery" in this case?

I can't complete the quest if I talked to Mol before freeing Mirkon. The quest gets stuck on find Mol, I talk to her but she won't aknowledge saving him. [[Special:Contributions/189.27.233.4|189.27.233.4]] 15:43, 16 August 2024 (CEST)

In the walkthrough, the page says:

The tiefling child will die if the party long rests after triggering the quest.

but in Notes, it says:

Long rests will not fail the quest after discovery.

Is there a difference between "triggering" and "discovery" in this case?
